Show 2 EscQlqnte Hots By Marlene Haws 826-4859 Daughters of the. Utah Pioneers held their monthly dinner and meeting meet-ing at the senior citizen center on Thursday evening. It was conducted by new president, Anne Spencer. Carolyn Porter gave a very interesting, interest-ing, and entertaining, history of her great-grandmother, Lucy Ellen Heaps Barney. Fay Alvey gave the lesson on Piute County with some of her humor interjected, which made for a very enjoyable evening.- Twila Mclnelly was surprised to,' have her children, Mary and Sherrill Davis of Rexburg, Ida., come to DUP and take her home. Garneal Smith had an unpleasant unpleas-ant surprise when she came out of her house on Wednesday and her flue was on fire! She called 911 and the fire department and police responded in record time. They put out the fire and laid her fears to rest. But I'll bet she didn't sleep much that night! Most of you know by now that Terry Cooper has a new bride, Kathy. Her parents have been here visiting with them, for five days. They are Reed and LaRue Jensen, Santaquin. LaRue was formerly LaRue Smith of Panguilch. Kathy (See ESCALANTE on page 5-A) Escalante News 3 From Page 2-A also has her five-year-old grandson, Dalton Dean Johnson of Provo, here for a two week visit. Jaimie and Mandy Barnspn were in a car accident on East Fork last Friday. It happened during a storm and there was black ice involved. Except for being shaken up and bruised a bit, Jaimie wasn't hurt too badly. Mandy's back was injured and she is wearing a back brace. As it happened, they left their little five-month-old baby boy, Cayse, in Escalante with his grandparents, Barry and Linda Barnson. They were all thankful for that. Haws and Janet Porter, Provo, have been in town checking on their property. Both of them have been experiencing some health problems. Hope they feel better soon so they can enjoy the summer. sum-mer. LaVee and Steve Wiscombe, Mapleton, stayed overnight on Monday with LaVee's Mom, Fay Alvey. They took her to Cedar City on Tuesday to see her doctor. Then, after bringing her back home, they returned to Mapleton that same day. Relatives and friends received word that former resident, Kline Spencer passed away, in Provo, after suffering a stroke. Our condolences condo-lences to his wife, Leona, and their family. . Brent and Patrice Cottam and Lynn and Judy Griffin attended meetings in Las Vegas, Nev., last week. They went in Brent's diesel pickup and they must have put it on automatic pilot and flown on in, in time for the basketball game between Escalante and Panguitch Friday night! (That's a mother-in-law joke, Brent) Marilyn Jackson handed me a copy of an old Garfield County Newspaper a while back. It had one of Fay Alvey's old "Chit Chat" columns in it. I'd like to share with you the little poem she had included to wind up her column. (Remember how she always did that?) It went like this: Some folks wear corrective shoes to help feet deformed or flat. You meet someone occasionally who ought to wear a corrective hat! |
