Show Voice Your Concerns, Panguitch Dear Panguitch Citizens: As a newly elected city councilman, coun-cilman, I have been attending council coun-cil meetings to become informed on, issues ahead of us. There is one particular issue which makes me nervous to say the, least. Panguitch City is finalizing its study on the nine-hole golf course, which is being built on the old Kaibab sawmill site with some held from Kaibab Industries. The city is sending out information they have collected to let you as citizens know as many facts as possible. In the council meetings I have attended, I have tried to voice concerns con-cerns on some issues in the proposal pro-posal between Kaibab and Panguitch Pan-guitch City. In particular, I have concerns with the projections of future revenue that would be used to operate and maintain this project. I felt like there may have been some deaf ears among the council members. mem-bers. My impression was that some council members may have already made up their minds that this is what they want for Panguitch Pan-guitch City. At the last city council meeting, meet-ing, there were several people present pres-ent who voiced their opinion that an information packet should be sent to all citizens of Panguitch and allow all citizens an opportunity to respond to a new survey. I agree with this concept, however, it was rejected by the council. To say the least, this concerns me. The issue is going to be voted on in January by the city council. I, for one, would like to see the majority of citizens rule on this and all issues of this magnitude. The study of the golf course has projected a loss of $18,000 to $45,000 per year, hopefully decreasing decreas-ing as time goes on. What happens if this projected loss remains at this level or, even worse, exceeds these amounts. There are two golf courses being constructed in our area, in Hatch and near Bryce Canyon, Can-yon, at the present time. What effect will this have on the projected pro-jected losses? I still would like several questions ques-tions answered and some items changed on the agreement between Kaibab and Panguitch City before I am ready to make a decision concerning con-cerning this issue. In my mind, there are too many "ifs" concerning this project. With exception of the original survey, in which only a small percentage per-centage of voters were polled, I feel the city has put forth a good effort to get information and projections for the project. I compliment the council in their efforts to promote growth and development of our community with this project. I ask the council one last thing: let all the citizens share the burden of the decision-making on this issue. I urge all citizens to become involved on this issue by contacting your council members and voicing your feelings. There could be a public hearing in the near future to allow the citizens citi-zens the opportunity to voice their concerns. I will try and inform the public of when and where this meeting will take place. This may be the last chance for you to voice your opinion. Thank you, Denny Orton Panguitch |
