Show All Three Boys Teams Win Their Basketball Games: Basketball Girls Win At Enterprise By John Yardley The Panguitch Bobcat girls team won the Enterprise basketball tournament over the weekend, defeating de-feating Canyon View 59 - 47 and Enterprise for the championship 63 - 57. Against 3-A Canyon View High School, the Bobcats had 20 points from Cindy Peterson and 12 from Catherine Howard as nine players scored. Saturday Curtis Barney's team trailed by nine in the third, but rallied back to win on Enterprise's home court. Lisa Duff finished with 22. Peterson was the tourney's Most Valuable Player with 14 and Howard scored 13. The Outstanding Rebounder Award for the tournament went to Catherine Howard and the Top Free-Throw Shooter was Jennifer Bulkley. In boy's action, Bryce Valley lost the championship game of their own tournament to South Sevier, 68 - 57, after playing well and defeating Meridian on Friday. The Mustangs, under new coach Steve Hatch, defeated Fredonia on Wednesday. John Shakespear knocked down 23 in the championship champion-ship game, while senior Lance Fos- ter nailed 13. For Escalante, the Moquis lost to South Sevier on Friday, but ral lied past Meridian 68-65 to win consolation on Saturday at the Bryce Valley tourny. Jared Smith pumped in a career high 24 points and Drew Coombs was close by with 23 as Jim Smith's boys caashed in with a victory in a close game. Panguitch defeated Beaver in overtime 60 - 58 in an exciting opener for the Bobcats. Henry James was everywhere with 19 points and 14 rebounds, including a clutch two and one at the end of regulation to send the game into overtime. Austin Owens hit a huge three-pointer to give coach Scott Hunt his first win of the season, with just second left in O.T. Owens finished with 10. The boys begin in earnest this week with the region games scheduled sched-uled for all three teams. Escalante boys will play at Piute Pi-ute on Dec. 5 and on Dec. 6, they will host Wasatch Academy in Escalante. Es-calante. They Escalante girls will also play Wasatch Ac. on Dec. 6. The Bobcats will play on Dec. 5 at Milford. That game can be heard on KMXU F.M. The Lady Bobcats will play on tonight in Wayne County. Bryce Valley boys play in Wayne on Dec. 5 and Virgin Valley will be in Tropic on Dec. 6 to play both the girls and boys teams. On Dec. 4, the boys junior varsity team will play Shiloah Valley and the girls will play Milford in Tropic. |
