Show I I i. v i i i i -mam Pat Oetting, who has chaired the Candlelight Christmas Celebration set for Saturday and Sunday in Panguitch, joins 8-year-old grand-daughter Teah PANGUITCH The city of Panguitch will capture the spirit of Christmas Saturday and Sunday with two special Christmas events expected to cheer residents from throughout the county who are invited to participate. The city's "Candlelight Christmas Celebration" Celebra-tion" is set for Saturday, Dec. 6, in Panguitch as part of the overall ongoing Sesquicentennial activity in the state of Utah. On Sunday the Panguitch Utah Stake will perform Handel's Messiah. Main in one of six festively decorated homes that will be open to the public Panguitch Opens The Holiday Season With Candlelight Christmas Celebration Dec. 6-7 in the area were often overlapping each other. This led them to work together to bring all efforts together in Panguitch this year for one large candlelight celebration and the Sub for Santa program For the past two weeks, Panguitch Pan-guitch merchants have been encouraging encour-aging residents to shop locally and infuse money back into the local area. They have presented shopping customers with a drawing ticket for each $5 purchase of merchandise. The tickets will go into a central drawing to be held Saturday, Dec. 6. The special day-long Christmas extravaganza will begin with a Christmas Home Tour, where six Panguitch homeowners have decorated decor-ated early for Christmas and are graciously inviting home tours through their residences between 1 and 4 p.m. for a $5 donation. All donations will go entirely to the Sub for Santa effort. River Lane Road; Janice and Steve Hatch at 651 N. 250 E.; Jeri Lou and Frank Houston at 162 W. 300 S.; Karen and Rick Swanger at 49 W. 200 S. and Pat and Mack Oetting at 295 N. Main. Passes for the home tour may be obtained from Pat Oetting or at the Panguitch City office for a $5 donation or less, says Pat Oetting, if that cost is a burden to anyone at this time of year. They welcome any and all donations. Following that three-hour tour opening event, Christmas celebrants cele-brants will gather at 4:30 p.m. for the special Christmas drawing to be held in the parking lot of Panguitch Drug Store. Motel owners have donated $200 toward gift certificates to be used to shop in Panguitch and other local merchants have-donated all types and sizes of gift items from T-shirts, a gift certificate for savings account at Zions Bank, gift certificate from Favorite Pastimes, from Welcome Market turkey and hams, gift certificates for two steak dinners at the Flying M, a certificate for Country Corner Cafe, a large pizza at C-Top, a kachina doll. from Lee's Indian Store, an oil change and free gas at Cooper's Service, a gift certificate from Darlene's Country Treasures and from the Snowed-In Quilt Shop, subscriptions to the Garfield County News, and much more. Winning ticket-holders must be present to claim their prizes. Following the drawing, Jim Wilcock, music instructor at Panguitch High School, will lead the community in singing Christmas carols and begin a candlelight Christmas parade. Residents are urged to dress in their warmest clothing, and to bring flashlights or candles to carry during the short parade which will go from Panguitch Drug's parking lot north on 100 East turning west on 100 North past H & R Building Supply to Main Street, turning south at Foy's Country Corner and (See PANGUITCH On Page 3A) Panguitch Celebrates Season From Page 2A to Welcome Market's parking lot. Included in the parade will be entries from local dance and clogging groups, the Klassy Kickers Kick-ers and Country Cloggers. Folks at Welcome Market have coordinated coordi-nated their annual Santa Claus visit this year with this celebration so, compliments of the Welcome Market Santa will be on hand for the parade and will be seated at the Social Hall following these festivities to greet boys and girls and pass out treats until 7 p.m. Saturday night. The Sub for Santa program this year will culminate the Christmas celebration in Panguitch. It is a coordinated effort of the Lions Club and Panguitch City, Social Services and local church groups from the Baptist, Catholic and LDS faiths. The Lions and Panguitch City each donated $500 toward gifts and financial donations were received also from Zions Bank and Security Title. Panguitch resident Pat Macklin is coordinating Sub for Santa along with Elaine Baldwin, with many assistants and with all donations to be used to purchase items such as toys, clothes, etc. for children in six needy families to help them have a complete and joyous Christmas. Panguitch families, are also encouraged to bring unwrapped Christmas gifts intended for needy families to Macklin orBaldwin if they want to participate in this years Sub for Santa effort. Food donations can go directly to the Care and Share program overseen by Faye Worthen. Panguitch resident Mike Tebbs has cut some 20 Christmas trees that will be decorated and used first at local LDS ward parties, then throughout Panguitch for this special candlelight Christmas celebration. Handel's Messiah will be performed at the LDS Stake Center in Panguitch Sunday evening at 7:30 p.m. following the LDS First Presidency Christmas broadcast. Choir members from the Panguitch LDS Stake will be joined by the Kanab Civic Orchestra and choral group to present the Messiah. The public is invited to attend and there is no charge. A special fund raiser musical program is slated for Monday evening, Dec. 8, at Panguitch High School auditorium. Members of Tammy Houston's Shooting Stars song group will perform at 6:30 p.m. Admission is by donation with all proceeds going to the Sub for Santa program. Candlelight Celebration coordinator Pat Oetting expressed her gratitude to everyone who has helped with their donations, their dedication and their hard work in making possible Saturday's upcoming event.
