Show - Escalante News i By Marlene Haws 826-4859 The Doyle Cottams, Myron Cottams, Brent Cottams and Sherrill Otts of Tropic went to Provo to see Garrett Cottam off on his mission. The Sons of the Utah Pioneers Pio-neers hit the trail last weekend for their first campout of the summer. They camped in a spot just off the Burr Trail road. Camping the full time were: Marvin and Gloria Porter, Vergean and Carolyn Porter, Por-ter, Danny and Lois Spencer, Dudley and Hazel Spencer, Clem and Donita Griffin, Al and Lani Barlow and Eldon and Angie Griffin. Grif-fin. Going for dinner on Friday were: Howard and Sandra Miller, Garneal Smith, Marlow and Christa Schow, Jerry and Sheree Roundy, Ben and Renee Porter, Lewis and Jean Griffin, Craig and Ramona Sorensen and Ramona's parents and a sister. Eldon Griffin spent a few days in Grand Junction, Colo., where he attended some classes pertaining to his job with Garkane Power Association. Thirteen members of the Escalante Es-calante LfS First Ward Relief Society attended the St. George Temple on Saturday. This is an annual excursion for the sisters in the ward. Participating were: Almeda Haycock, Ardis Christen-sen, Christen-sen, Marie Porter, Margean Schow, Marlene Haws, Flora Leibenguth, Pat Woolsey, San-e'tte San-e'tte Cottam, Linda Haycock, Suzann McLemore, Jan Liston, Sandra Porter, Donnie Randall. Pat, Linda, Donnie and Suzann did baptisms while the rest attended at-tended a session. Pat Gonder, Garrison is the Officer-In-Charge at our Post Office Of-fice for a few weeks until a new postmaster can be appointed. Lewis and Jean Griffin had son, Robert, his wife Kristin and their three sons here for a visit. Robert lives in Provo. Ron and Barbara Brubaker are here from Rancho Mirage, Calif. They, like the rest of us, are busy getting seeds into the ground and making more work for themselves! Don Haws is also back from Killeen, Tex. He will probably have tomatoes next week! Ray and Lois Barney, Kays-ville Kays-ville were here to spend Mother's Day with their moms, Grace Barney and Elda Haws. Marge Isaacson, Tremonton, is visiting here with the family of her daughter and son-in-law, Victory Vic-tory and Richard Crawford. Dixie Lyman visited with her parents, Dick and Joan Taylor, Tay-lor, Fremont. She also helped make a quilt for the wedding of her nephew, Cody, son of Doug and Geraldine Grundy, Loa. Then Troy Lyman went over for the wedding. David and Jenifer Dutton moved, with their two children, back to Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She says she wouldn't have minded staying a while longer. Haws and Janet Porter are back getting their yards in shape after spending the winter in Provo. Kenneth Griffin is here, from Provo, and is working for the Forest For-est Service again on the summer crew. A special annual retreat and luncheon was held on Monday at the Circle D Restaurant, for members of the Chamber of Commerce. Greg Hawkins, Vernal, Ver-nal, Utah State President of the Chamber of Commerce was in attendance to give instruction and new insight to the workings of a Chamber of Commerce. There were changes made in the Escalante Chamber of Commerce Com-merce organization Lance Jaggar is the new president; Brent Griffin, Grif-fin, past President; President Elect, Christine Haycock; Treasurer, Treas-urer, Kathrine Barney (Triple S RV Park); New board member, Gene Windle (Rainbow Country Bed and Breakfast); City council representative, Geraldine Liston; other board members are Sharon Dutton and Sue Bassett of Boulder. Boul-der. Harriet Priska serves as executive ex-ecutive director. Others in attendance at the meeting were Deon Alvey, Rolain Alvey, Kim and Donnie Randall and Greg Hill, our new recreation specialist for the Grand Staircase-Escalante Staircase-Escalante Monument. Blaine Willis has volunteered volun-teered to work a few hours each day at the information booth on Main Street. And others have expressed interest in doing the same. Twila Mclnelly was pleas- antly surprised, upon her return from having surgery, to find that her children had done a complete renovation of her kitchen. Kent and Phyllis Mclnelly came, from Panguitch, to work on it. Judy Griffin did her share and others of the family will be doming this week to help with the incidentals. I have been doing my spring work But it leaves me awfully lame. My helper can be aggravating aggravat-ing Arthur I. Tis is his name! |
