They hold their reunion in the daytime then stay overnight and visit some more. The family of Loreta Spencer came last week for their reunion. Wayne and Connie Spencer, Salt Lake City; Don and Janette Spencer, their daughter, Amanda, and her friend Shelly, all of Greeley, Colo.; Vicki Beck, Ephraim; Bob and Melanie Spencer and two sons, Orderville and Keith Spencer, Ruidoso, N.M., Brent Spencer and Gail Stock had to work so were unable to come. They both live in St. George. At this writing, Arden Taylor is in the LDS Hospital in Salt Lake City. He had open heart surgery. Hopefully, he will be well on his way to a speedy recovery by this time next week. Dick and Donnie Lee came from St. George to get Wanless Alvey and Clorene Vidrine. They had to take Wanless to the hospital, in St. George, upon their arrival there. Bill, Dawn and Ruby Griffin attended at-tended funeral services for Bob Roundy in Price. Deon Alvey and Marlene Haws went to Panguitch last Thursday. Deon had to work but Marlene went to the funeral services of Mary Partridge. Par-tridge. She was able to visit there with her friend Kolleen Wayne, of St. George, who is a former Escalante Esca-lante resident and post office clerk. Kolleen sends her love to all her Escalante friends. Hal Shurtz came from St. George last week to wipe out the winter cobwebs and get things whipped into shape at his home here. That probably means there's a Shurtz reunion brewing. It will be great to see the Shurtz family in town again. Shawna Daniels, Ephraim, is spending most of her time now at the home of her parents, Vernon and Hazel Griffin. The rest of the kids are good to check on their parents par-ents too. Nellie Bailey celebrated her 96th birthday on June 5. Our eldest citizen, citi-zen, she celebrated all day Saturday and attended church on Sunday! Family members attending the party were; Rhonda McMurtrey, Idaho Falls, Idaho; Shelley Wilson, St. George; LaNell Cottam, Shawna Fay and son Dane, all of Cedar City; Connie and Alfred Jensen, Jen-sen, Boulder; Calvin and Martha Schow and the family of Carrie Griffin. With all the grandkids and great-grandkids it was quite a party. After an overnight stay, Rhonda McMurtrey took her mom, Carrie Griffin, back to Idaho for a 10-day visit, after which she will bring her back home. Dane Fay went to Boulder and spent a couple of days with his grandparents, Alfred and Connie Jepsen, before returning home to Cedar City. There are lots of birthdays in June. Velma Boulter was honored on her 81st birthday, on June 1 1 at a birthday luncheon at Cowboy Blues. The following friends and relatives were in attendance: Marie Griffin, Deon Alvey, Betty P. Alvey, Ruby Griffin, Clea Wool-sey, Wool-sey, Ardis Christensen, Marlene Haws, Lois Spencer and Gameal Smith. Betty's birthday is on the June 12, Lois' on the sixteenth and Ardis' on June 25, so they can have lunch together at least three more times this month! Chan Mclnelly, Farmington, has been in town twice the past few weeks - once with wife, Betty, and once to bring his mother, Twila Mclnelly, a new lawn mower. I'm sure he broke the mower in so he should come back at least once a week and see that it's working okay! The family of Keith and Linda Carter went to Ivins last week for the blessing of Nephi and Anna Carter's baby girl. She was given the name Whitney Ann. Debbie Carter Schmutz, St. George, has been visiting at the home of her sister and brother-in-law Kathy and Vern Mclnelly. Their mother, Shirley Carter of Mesa, Ariz. was here for a few days at graduation time. Jim Caldwell met Doug Haws, Hurricane, through a mutual friend just before he and Rose moved back home, from St. George, for the summer. Jim, Doug and the friend went fishing, had a good time and even caught a few fish. We were glad to hear that Doug was doing well. EMT trainees from Escalante and Boulder recently went to Provo for exams. They were: Elaine Cottam, Cot-tam, Amy Christensen, Tammie Magleby, Donnie Randal, Nancy Porter, Donnie Porter, Nicole Spencer, Lisa Rollins, Laurie Smith, Linda Haycock, Sam Winkler, and Mindy Munson of Escalante; Tori Ann Clapp, Stacy Davis, Ora Keel, Donna Owen, Bob Cochrane, Kevin Eastman, and Peter Pe-ter Bensen, all of Boulder. We are very fortunate in this area to have so many people who are willing to devote their time and effort to this life saving service. They deserve a great big thank you because that's about all they get! Our condolences to Sharol Bernardo Ber-nardo whose father passed away recently. |
