Show Wj Panguitch Lake: Panguitch Lake continues to produce some good fishing. Fishing has been v hX good for rainbows from shore using bait. Most fish 12 - 13 inches with a few bigger. Try fi'j nightcrawlers or rainbow glitter powerbait. The road through Cedar Breaks is now open. lf East Fork Of The Sevier River: Turbidity and fishing success will depend upon any precipitation y Wt and releases from Tropic Reservoir. The river was low and clear in Kingston Canyon this week Yll f with no releases from Otter Creek Reservoir. This will change soon when water is released from Stf ijl the reservoir. The stretch in Black Canyon was up a little but not too turbid this week. Try Ij ' p nightcrawlers or spinners when flows and turbidity are up, streamers and nymph when the stream I is clear. I Otter Creek Reservoir: Some 12-inch rainbow are being caught. Try powerbait from the shore, or dead minnows if you want to try for one of the larger fish still found here. The reservoir is T I scheduled to be drained this year for repairs on the dam. In order to harvest fish which would l be lost during the draining, the limits at Otter Creek Reservoir have been doubled to 12 fish. J l All other regulations still apply. The increased limits apply until August 3 1 , reverting to the old X' ij limits on Sept. 1. The division will take advantage of the draining to treat the reservoir with Ml rotenone to reduce chub numbers. If work proceeds according to schedule, the reservoir will fil yy receive its normal quota of 200,000 7-inch rainbow trout this fall and will provide some fishing ill fX next year. Please prevent the spread of whirling disease by cleaning mud from waders and (1Y jL equipment. Do not transport any parts of fish caught here to other waters. ? J Piute Reservoir: The reservoir is near full. Fishing has been good for 12-inch rainbows. Try ki powerbait, dead minnows, nightcrawlers or spinners from shore. Needlefish, jakes or zrays if Yl trolling. 4 ;N Fish Lake: Good fishing for splake and rainbow trout from shore so far. Some reports of jft rainbows being taken in the Twin Creeks area. Remember, Twin Creeks itself is closed to fishing. Jj A standard technique from a boat is jigging near the bottom of at the weekline (1 5-25 feet deep) ! with a spoon or jig tipped with bait. Stillfishing with bait or trolling will work for rainbow trout. Yellow perch are also active early in the year and can be caught jigging a small spoon tipped k with a little piece of worm or with bait alone below a float. Try in a little bit shallower if you ' want to concentrate on perch. Summer limit take effect May 22. Trout limit is 8, no more than i 2 may be lake trout and only 1 may be a lake trout larger than 20 inches. Pine Lake: Good access. The reervoir is full. This is a popular spot for camping. It has been J fair fishing for 10 - 16 inch rainbow trout with an occasional cutthroat or brook trout. Try !l powerbait or worms off the dam. Wooly buggers or damsel fly patterns will work near the M shallower flats. Catchable rainbow trout have been stocked. J Wide Hollow Reservoir: Water level at the reservoir is still high. Fishing has been good for 1 r catchable rainbows using powerbait or worms. Bluegill have moved in shallow and are biting. Most fish are small but will provide some fun for the kids. Largemouth bass are also in shallow h and active. V Lower Bowns: The road is dry and access is good. Fishing is good for 12 - 13 inch rainbow ! trout. Try red glitter powerbait or nightcrawlers. Boulder Mtn. Lakes: Access to the top is closed. Lakes up to 1 0,000 ft elevation are ice-free, il Access is still muddly and rough, but improving with warmer weather. Some good fishing is generally available as lakes become accessible and open up. Several reports of good fishing for V 10-12 inch brook trout from lakes on the north end. A standard technique for many of the lakes J which contain brook trout is fishing with a black jig or similar lure near any cover. Leech, V buggers, scuds and damselflies are popular fly patterns. Remember special regulations for W Boulder Mountain lakes and streams. Trout limit is six with only two fish over 13 inches. V 1 . Tropic Reservoir: Good access. The resevoir is full. Fishing has been good for 10-inch rainbow h 'ft trout and small brook trout. The reservoir has been stocked with catachablc rainbow trout. JMI North Creek LakesBarker Reservoir: A group of lakes at the head of the North Creek , 1 Yf drainage, just west of Escalante. You can drive to the Barker Reservoirs whitch contain rainbow ' k' Sfl and brook trout. There are eight other small lakes and reservoirs in the area which can be reached 4 'tjf by hikes from 14 miles to 2 miles. Most contain brook troutspecial regulations for the Boulder J! Mountain lakes apply here: trout limit is six with only two fish over 13 inches. In addition, Lit Doughcrty Basin Lake is closed to fishing until July 10. After July 10, it is open to fishing with J artificial flies and lures only and all cutthroat trout must be released immediately. jjv |
