Show Otter Creek Reservoir Dam To Be Rebuilt By November ANTIMONY The dam at Otter Ot-ter Creek Reservoir is currently being totally rebuilt. As a result, the reservoir will be almost totally drained by .mid-September. Along with the reconstruction project, plans are being made to chemically treat the reservoir basin with rote-none rote-none to remove unwanted fish and allow restocking of trout in a relatively rela-tively clean reservoir when reconstruction recon-struction is finished. The chemical treatment project will take place in late September and will be coodinated with the reconstruction project. After the reservoir is drained, a temporary coffer dam will be constructed to keep the construction site as dry as possible. The reservoir basin and water stored behind the coffer dam will be treated with rotenene to remove all remaining fish, including includ-ing Utah chubs, which impact the sport fishery. Tributaries above the reservoir that will be treated include Otter Creek downstream from the Angle diversion and the East Fork Canal downstream from Antimony. An exact treatment date is not known at this time, but will depend on construction progress and status of the coffer dam. If all goes according to plan, reconstruction re-construction will be completed by November and the reservoir will to restocked with trout this fall. Rainbow trout planned by restocking re-stocking are currently being held at the Loa fish hatchery. Cutthroat trout are also scheduled for stocking and brown trout will be stocked in the tributaries upstream from the reservoir. The reservoir will remain open to fishing throughout the year 2000 and despite the treatment, fishing is expected to be good. Some trout are expected to reach sizes as large as 18 inches within a year of the treatment project. |
