Garfield Memorial Health Care Foundation Dinner Is A Big Success PANGUITCH The Annual Garfield Memorial Health Care Foundation Dinner, always a huge social success, boasted both excellent excel-lent attendance and outstanding fund raising potential this year. Friday evening's festivities were ic'erily cmcecd by Foundation i'ard member Ada Cox," who tossed in a few medical jokes for good measure. Cox kept the evening moving right along with several musical numbers interspersed between be-tween announcements and much appreciated thank yous. The foundation donated $21,679 toward equipment and projects at various clinics and the Long Term Care Facility since January 1999. For the Long Term Care Facility, these projects included a self-contained, self-contained, self-watering raised garden, gar-den, a radiant heater for the tub room and a wander-guard security system. The Foundation also purchased pur-chased mammography equipment for the Panguitch Clinic a centrifuge centri-fuge for the Bryce Valley Clinic, a microwave for the Escalante Clinic and invested funds for training of new Emergency Medical Technicians Techni-cians in the Boulder area. The delicious dinner at Friday night's event was cooked and catered ca-tered by hospital kitchen personnel with many others from the hospital setting up and cleaning up from the night. Kudos went to the cooks once again for a unique and varied selection of salads, vegetables, entrees en-trees and desserts. Appreciative diners suggested that the foundation, founda-tion, as an additional mini-fundraiser, produce and sell a cookbook featuring some of the annual dinners' din-ners' best recipes. Entertainment for the evening was provided by new Panguitch resident Cindy Coombs who offerpH up a lovely array of love songs. Sisters Dakota and Makayliff Spencer of Escalante also entertained enter-tained dinner goers with their delightful de-lightful young talent. Capping off the evening was an outstanding array of door prizes that had been collected from local area businesses as well as from Cedar City, Springdale and Mesquite. From Escalante a handcrafted Indian In-dian drum was donated by Nature Sounds, won by Ross Williams; a horseshoe flower arrangement was donated by BK Western Arts and won by Verda Oldham; a dinner for two, from the Ponderosa Restaurant was won by Ernie Henderson and a paperweight from Serenidad Gallery was taken home by Jerry Bagnell A special prize of a night's lodging, dinner for two and $50 was donated by Boulder Mountain Lodge in Boulder to be enjoyed by LDS missionary Elder Wetzel and his missionary companion, Elder Derri-cot. Derri-cot. Actually it was a wonderful opportunity for these two young men to get over the other side of the county and take home some scenic memories. Three handcrafted clocks which were donated by Cal Davies of Panguitch Pan-guitch were won by Joyce Griffin, Wendy Roe and Jon Torgerson. A jasper necklace and with matching earrings crafted by Paul and Kathy Woodard at Panguitch Valley Lapidary Lapi-dary was taken home by Shannon Barneyand Sandy Packer won a jasper jas-per belt buckle made by the Woo-dards. Woo-dards. Two tickets to the Shakespearean Shakespear-ean Festival for the 1999 season were won by Carol Englestead and Gloria Sevy. The tickets were donated do-nated by Southern Utah University. A beautiful, handmade doily, made by Maxine Crosby, was won by Clem Griffin, and six months free service and free installation, donated by Blackstone Cable, was won by Cindy Coombs. Four tickets to Cine-max Cine-max at Zion National Park were won by Rebecca Bales; Garkane Power donated two $25 gift certifi- cates, won by Caroline Mathews and Lowell Henrie. A sleeping bag, also donated by Garkane Power, was won by Nancy Twitchell and Foster's Steakhouse donated a $25 gift certificate, won by Elizabeth Payne. A $50 gift certificate for a new or existing savings account donated by the State Bank of Southern Utah (Bryce Valley Branch) was won by Annette Heywood. Bryce Canyon American Car Care Center donated a front end alignment, won by Russell LeFevre and Bryce Canyon Lodge donated a gift certificate for dinner, won by Faye Worthen. A $25 gift certificate was won by Pam Bagnell, as well as a $25 certificate from Red Canyon Indian Store won by Ada Cox. Peg Bag nell won another $25 gift certificate from Bryce Canyon Trading Post. Mavis Torgerson won a night's accommodations at the Circle D Motel in Escalante and Cindy Perkins Perk-ins took home the one night's lodging lodg-ing at Best Western Rubys Inn. Bryce Pioneer Village donated a $25 gift certificate won by Marilyn; the Hungry Coyote Cafe donated two steak dinners valued at $44 and won by John Yardley. A one-year subscription to the Garfield County News was won by Darrel Spencer and Eric Packer won a certificate for two nights and three days at the Oasis Resort & Casino in Mes-quite. |
