Show Tropic News By Margaret Shakespear 679-8749 Larry and Carol Cloward from West Valley City visited with parents, Royal and Rella Alvey and camped. Also, Rella reports that daughters Sonie Allen and Afton Branch are enjoying a great vacation touring the LDS church historical places and other places of interest. She received a card from Niagara Falls, N.Y., They will be gone for three weeks. Carl Boyd visited in town for a week and he especially enjoyed the time with wife Mary Miller. Faye Pollock was in Beaver with daughter Kris Williams. She enjoyed a quilt fair that was being held that day. Visiting with Marie and Gayle Pollock is Jaynie Sue and Clark Harmon, and children McKenzie and Alyssa. They are from Lehi and Jaynie Sue is a sister to Marie. LDS Girl's Camp for the Young Women of the Escalante Stake was held on July 28 through July 30. It was held at King's Creek Campground. There were 34 girls from the Tropic Ward in attendance and the theme was camp-a-lot. Special thanks to Renon Bybee, Camille Mecham, and Marie Niemann, also to the leaders as back up. Shirley Haycock and Dixie Shakespear attended Pioneer Day celebrations in Escalante. They had a great time together. Margaret Shakespear has accepted to do the column for one week for this correspondent as Stanley and I are going on a little vacation. We will report about it when we return. Louise Ott, Marilyn Veater, Panguitch, Carrie Dickinson Archibald, Layton and Ruth Sanburg, Cedar City, all got together and had dinner last week. It was alot of fun and many memories were shared. Lorene Munson was home for an overnight visit. Her daughter, JoAnn Topham brought her. Franz and Margaret Shakespear Shakes-pear enjoyed having her niece, Marjie Coltrin from Snowflake, Ariz, spend a couple of days. The Shakespear family also enjoyed some surprise visitors from France who spent a couple of nights, Valerie LeFranc and Fabian Maurice, who are on a world bike tour. They started in northeastern Canada, came down the eastern coast, took a bus from Tennessee to Denver and have been riding in the Rocky Mountains for a few weeks and loved our scenic area. The young couple especially enjoyed en-joyed the American way of eating s'mores, but didn't care for the rattlesnake who joined them. Fabian kept the rattlers for a souvenir. sou-venir. Valerie enjoyed the lesson and food at the Tropic LDS Relief Society annual picnic. Dixie Shakespear enjoyed a Sunday visit from her son Rhett and his wife Christine Shakespear and their daughter Toni and husband hus-band Romar Carl, all from Cedar City. Dixie's friends from Phoenix, Phoe-nix, Ariz., Stan and Katie MacDougal, visited with her another an-other day. Hayes Mecham, son of Clint and Lori, spent a few days in Kamas with the Waldens. Ora Brinkerhoff has a trailer house behind her home. Kayce' Palmer and Tyson Brinkerhoff plan to make their new home there. Dale and Lucy Williams enjoyed en-joyed having their daughters spend a few days with them. Annette An-nette Erickson lives in Cedar City and Annai Smith lives in Richfield. Rich-field. Jack and Mae Chynoweth enjoyed en-joyed Carlon and Verna Shumway Hinton's visit on Saturday. Max and Phyllis Stewart enjoyed en-joyed tending grandson, Brennan Stewart last week. Orlan Ruesch's family attended at-tended their reunion at King's Creek Campground where Karen Oldroyd from Murray was in charge. Rick and Renon Bybee and family spent the day in Kanab on daughter Bree Ramsay's birthday to help her celebrate. Other daughter, Brittany went to Renon's sister, Jeri Munford's in Sandy, to have a little vacation . Jack and Gaya Greenhalgh helped their son in Las Vegas while he was ill. They saw Norm and Clella Littlefield and they said to say hello to everyone in Tropic. Ravae Pollock, and Orlan and Ferriland Ruesch visited with daughter Kim R. Hansen of Yellowstone Yel-lowstone Nat'I Park. Stan and Louise Ott went to their granddaughter Ashley's baptism bap-tism in Cedar City. Ashley is son True's daughter. Lowell and Margaret Mecham attended three days of NTCA meetings representing South Cen-. tral Utah Telephone, Assn. in Cody, Wyo. Shirley Haycock was in charge of the Pollock reunion held at the Tropic Town Park. Carol and Bonnie Stewart rode with Maureen Mangum to California Cali-fornia to visit Carol's mother, Ann. They brought Carol's mother back with them to Tropic to spend some time here. Duane and Carol Stewart also had a weekend guest, Lacey Edwards. LaRae Pollock, (Lyle's wife), spent several days in Tropic, before be-fore she had to take daughter, Kelly, back home to Lovell, Wyo. Faye Pollock, Julie Bybee, and Shelly and Margaret Shakespear spent a day in Richfield Rich-field helping judge their county fair. ! The Bear Cub Scouts went on a cook out by Henderson Canyon and earned their whittling Chip Card by carving soap. Gail (Herman) Pollock showed the boys how to whittle a whistle. Nell Wilson is glad to have her sister stay with her until she finishes up with her yard and home sale. Baseball practice for the high school boys has begun and former coach, Clare Ramsay, has been helping the boys. Margaret and Margarie Mecham enjoyed family visits from Bill and Nancy Hubner and family from Salt Lake City, Vera Larsen and family from Richfield, and Garnet Barton and family from Cedar City. Mr. and Mrs. Dick Snowden, Estes Park, Colo., spent four days visiting with Gail and Bonnie Miles, as well as attending the John Johnson family reunion. This past week the Miles had their son Jeff and Annette Miles and children of Boise, Ida., and daughter Joann Steveson and children from Sandy spend the week with them. Lyle and Lela Johnson from Sierra Vista, Ariz., Phyllis Vaud-erlaus Vaud-erlaus and children of Preston, Ida., and Adair Vauderlaus and children from Hyde Park, visited with their aunt Ella Adair. Members of the LDS single adult family home evening group ate dinner at Doug's Cafe for their activity. Lenny Pollock received an LDS mission call to Jackson, Miss. The Tropic LDS Ward Relief Society held their summer social in the yard of Spring Seiler Wednesday evening. A missionary dinner was held for Russell Slack, who is going to Portland, Ore. Gail and Bonnie Miles took mother, Ella Adair to the 24th of July parade and celebration in Salt Lake City. Gail Miles and Ella Adair joined a tour group in Cedar City and enjoyed two of the Shakespearean festival productions. |
