Show Drought Effects To Be Topic Of Meeting ESCALANTE A meeting to present special programs to assist farmers, ranchers and stockmen whose livelihood is being affected by the current drought is set for Nov. 6, upstairs in the Escalante Community Center at 7 p.m. Sponsored by the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service, Brad Reeve, Garfield County executive director of ASCS, will outline special helps that arc available, including an emergency feed program on a cost-share cost-share basis to purchase feed for eligible el-igible livestock and a disaster crop loss program which will compensate for losses suffered. Reeve will explain how to qualify and what ASCS can do to help. He will discuss AUMs as they relate to grazing permits on drought-affected ranges. He said that the Boulder-Escalante area of the county has been more affected than some other areas and that continued drought conditions could portend even more serious consequences in the season to come. He is offering help through the winter season to those affected by the conditions now. The cost-share feed program can be especially helpful so that ranchers don't have to sell their foundation stock because be-cause of reduced feed or AUM cutbacks. cut-backs.
