Show Special Events Celebrate Tropic's First 100 Years TROPIC Over five hundred residents, their relatives and friends, former residents, their relatives and their friends, Bryce Valley High School alumni, visitors to the community com-munity and tourists passing by, celebrated Tropic's 100th birthday on Saturday. Registration began early in the afternoon at the high school where name tags were distributed to each participant and where all the day's events took place. Participants provided their own afternoon entertainment enter-tainment as they spent the time getting get-ting reacquainted and sharing favorite fa-vorite memories. A baked chicken dinner, served - V ' t .1 ' ' Postmaster Ivadell Yardley's grandaughter Nachol Yardley hands over a letter for posting as one of the first patrons of the new Hatch facility, opened for the first time in mid-May. between 5 and 7, renewed everyone's every-one's energy for the fun still to come, a program of entertainment presented at the high school's newly completed auditorium. June Shakespear had written the script for the history of Tropic, presented pre-sented in 10-year segments and interspersed in-terspersed with music and dancing. Narrating was David Pollock. The program paid special tribute to veterans, introduced the talents of the Bryce Valley Cloggers, Tracy Sawyer who performed the Charleston, and a lady's chorus performing, per-forming, "Suddenly, There Is a Valley, Val-ley, directed by Cheri Feltner. Fred Fagergren sang, "Dream the Impossible Impos-sible Dream. Luana Riddle accompanied accom-panied the entertainers. The 5th and 6th graders from Bryce Valley Elementary Ele-mentary performed square dances. Decorating for the event were members of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers who used their supply of antiques for the occasion. The program was followed by a "Century Dance," with country music mu-sic performed by John Burdick's newly formed band. Funds not used to pay for the day's events were contributed to a fund established to publish a book about the history of Tropic. |
