Show Shurtz Instructs Young Playwrights At Panguitch PANGUITCH Panguitch High School English teachers Debbie Pollock and Anne Reynolds united their cb'ses the last week of February and iirst week of March to give their students a unique "hands-on" "hands-on" experience with playwriting. The instructors had invited a talented relative and second generation playwright, Raymond King Shurtz for a two-week intensive workshop on playwriting methodology and terminology. Shurtz is currently living in Boulder, on sabbatical and is in the process of writing a novel. Under his tutelage the students learned to use their imaginations, write scenes and even whole plays. Shurtz is co-founder and Artistic Director of Playwright's Workshop Theatre. As a playwright, director, and actor he finds collaborating on the development of new work for the stage to be artistically stimulaung and rewarding. He has worked with youth and adults of all ages teaching theatre classes, workshops, and residencies at Playwright's and in local schools and communities. For the past two years at Playwright's, in Phoenix, Ariz., he has also served as the Director of the Edge Project, PWT's critically-acclaimed nine-month writing program for Arizona playwrights. Shurtz has an extensive background in the arts. In addition he enjoys such past times as poetry, songwriting, singing, juggling, acrobatics, playing guitar, cowboying and is a certified gymnastics instructorclinician. Shurtz is a son of Dean Shurtz and Jerry King Shurtz originally of Escalante and Boulder. |
