"A system that was previously considered a disaster itself, riddled with redundancy, too costly and inefficient, is now streamlined and affordable to all producers and ranchers seeking an economic safety-net for disasters." An estimated 251 million acres of farmland are eligible for crop insurance in the United States. In 1993, 84 million acres or 33 percent per-cent of acres eligible for crop insurance insur-ance -- were insured. In 1994, 100 million acres or 40 percent of eligible eli-gible acres - were insured. Because of the Crop Insurance Reform Act, the projection for 1995 doubles the number of acres insured to 200 million acres -- or 80 percent of acres eligible for crop insurance. While catastrophic insurance can be obtained from county CFSA offices, Rominger urged producers to carefully examine the benefits of additional coverage offered through local crop insurance agents. |
