Show CLUB activities FOR THIS YEAR community work day park improvements and reports discussed A special meeting ot of the board of 0 governors of the box elder commercial club and chamber of commerce was held in the board room on thursday at eight president james E halverson called the meeting to order and members members W I 1 E davis H L erdmann A G rich V H were present J C knudson representing the intermediate rate association of utah and the shippers association ol of the state met with the board and requested that the box elder commercial club cooperate with the local representatives of the shippers associations in presenting the problem of legislative protection to intermountain shipping to the public of brigham and box elder county after an extended informal discussion it was moved by WE davis seconded by V if and agreed to that a citizens and business mens meeting be held in the auditorium of the club on friday mar 12 to protest against the proposed unfair exorbitant and discriminating tariffs tor for the intermountain country that good speakers be brought in by the shippers representatives and a musical and entertainment program be provided by the club entertainment committee and that all club members be invited by the secretary to attend other invitations to the public and advertising ver to be taken care of by the shippers the following committee reports were then considered and the indicated action taken the report of the house committee signed by geo A anderson john L pierce and moroni jensen in certain particulars were adopted the report of the band committee signed by V H abel S rich each and IV V call urging certain cooperation was accepted and ordered filed the report of the fish game committee signed by john joha B D mathianas Mathi asas chairman was approved and ordered tiled filed tor for action at the appropriate time the report of the insurance committee signed by J C knudson wynn L eddy and dan peterson was approved and ordered tiled filed the report of the agricultural committee signed by robert H stewart C W terrell merrell den ben knudson and carl Frish knecht was accepted approved and its recommendations adopted and the secretary was directed to communicate to the chairman the action of the board and to further advise the committee cittee that the board is 13 in full sympathy with his pro program ram and is is planning amusements and other ways and means to carry out the same V H H L erdmann W E davis and james E halverson were made a committee to investigate the practicability cabi lity of a series of vaudeville performances forma for mances aces to report back at the next meeting 9 the report ot of the park and playground committee signed by N chris simonsen john W phillips and alma jensen was considered and the action indicated taken on hereby respectfully makes the following recommendations relative to parks and play grounds inasmuch as the recent city administration saw fit to secure additional land for park purposes we feel that the present city administration should take steps to put said land in condition tor for park purposes in order that we may more fittingly accommodate our visitors your committee recommends that immediate steps be taken to put the grand grand stand at the kall ball park in pioneer park in sate safe condition in its present state it Is unsafe tor for people to occupy we teel feel that additional dressing rooms at the municipal swimming pool be provided A visit to the pool during the summer months will convince you that this Is a popular place of amusement and that places tor for dressing and undressing are much needed referring again to pioneer park we teel feel that the city fathers be urged to remove many of the soft wood trees thereby giving the more valuable hardwood trees a chance to grow one look over the tops tells of the trees from the U I 1 C freight yard should con vince anyone that step e taken at once before the ducks were placed on the pond at said park the moss and weeds presented an unsightly and sight since said ducks have been maintained the waters are tree free from all noxious weeds and the bird life adds much beauty to the surroundings surrounding gs aud and forice tor the cost of 0 their teed feed it Is nothing compared with the good they do we urge that they be maintained and the other wate water spring pring op opens ens have the mayor declare it a general holiday for the entire town and have all male citizens put to work with sho shovel vel or other implement and the ladles ladies carry eats and drinks to them that the arrangements and program be worked out and supervised by the city manager or other competent person the foregoing report was adopted and the secretary was directed to communicate muni cate the same to the mayor and city council with the recommendation that whatever action that body deemed proper proper be undertaken that the box elder commercial club proff rs its wholehearted support and cooperation to the city in such program and especially ally in the working out of the community day in calling out the male population the board feeling that such a community enterprise would accomplish much in the conditioning of the park without draining tax funds if properly planned and organized and directed by engineering and other experts as well as to produce a united and fraternal feeling among the citizens that action on this matter should commence at once so that the work could he be accomplished while the ground is soft and workable |
