Show SOCIAL ITEMS OF THE WEEK the twentieth annual ball ot of the ladles ladies civic improvement club held in this city wednesday evening at the academy ot of music was not only the crowning social function ot of the year but the most successful event of 0 its kind ever attempted heretofore the mammoth hall was most artistically decorated in a color scheme of red and white representing an old fashioned I 1 garden and the colonial ladies A most unique ifa archway of colonial design was erected at the entrance of the hall with gates ajar denoting welcome to all the windows were latticed in white with red rambler roses extending toward the ceiling thirty two hand painted designed and painted by mrs airs C I 1 smith and mrs win S fife of ladies in colonial dress in pastel shades adorned the walls being so arranged that each hung at the top of 0 a pannel mirror and with the lighting system so arranged that the soft subdued colors lent to the rose atmosphere mo sphere ot of the garden A profusion ot of red hearts were suspended from the ceiling adding the touch ot of st valentine the orchestra stand gave the appearance ot of a domed shaped grand pavillion papillion pa with its pillars lattice work and climbing roses while a most gorgeous array ot of beautiful potted red geraniums and terns ferns adorned the entire frontage rest nooks on either side added to the beauty of the occasion and provided a most desired seclusion tor for those not desiring to engage in dancing the grand march at 10 was led by mayor hervin bunderson and mrs james B thom eon president of the club music was furnished by norm watkins splendid orchestra and commendations of the beautiful rendition ot of popular pieces were heard on every side dainty refreshments fresh ments consisting of punch and satin sticks were served at attractive bobois by the idle isle the reception committee was composed of the following and Ales mesdames darnes james 13 thomson leroy B young J H clive john AT burt chas T anderson F A hinckley IV 0 knud son geo A anderson H R doremus and frank R holman the committees in 1 charge included the following hall and music mesdames J B thomson F A hinckley W 0 knudson decoration mesdames claud C IV merrell C 1 I smith W S fife mack atack AT ack fishburn refreshments mesdames H IL doremus geo A anderson and chas T anderson program mesdames J H clive J M burt F R holman the M I 1 A stake board entertained at a delightful party at the new club rooms in the first national bank building tuesday evening complimentary to the al I 1 A dramatic club and their partners A delicious hot luncheon was served at three long iong tables with covers laid tor for sixty five guests low bowls ot of cut flowers and terns ferns formed the table decoration W il griffiths acted as toastmaster ol of the evening and toasts were responded to by the following mrs W vosco call john E baird alt alf L freeman and W H stayner community singing games and dancing were the features feature of 0 the entertainment miss alice and selma lee entertained at a prettily arranged valentine card party at the home of the former saturday evening progressive rook was the diversion of the evening with prizes awarded to miss aliss juanita smith and mr air adolph olsen consolation prizes to miss alice jensen and mr I 1 marchel ar iel olsen later a dainty two course luncheon was served with covers laid tor for twelve guests 4 I 1 mrs flora hatch and mrs berniece marble entertained the junior girls 0 of the Y L al 1 I A ot of the fifth ward at the hatch home wednesday evening at a candy pull A variety of delicious dell homemade home made candles candies was made and a social evening enjoyed later dainty refreshments were served to twelve guests tr miss karma kelly entertained the original lamitie La club at ier her home wednesday evening A delicious tray luncheon was served potted plants formed the table decorations de coraLi ns and adorned tho the rooms needle work and musical numbers were the features of the tha evening the sego lily camp 0 of the daughters of pioneers will give giro a program at the sacrament meeting at the 2nd and ward chapel sunday night at seven A good attendance is desired |
