Show Kanab Teenagers Survive Hatch Area Accident HATCH Two teenagers, traveling home to Kanab from Salt Lake City, are probably alive because they were wearing scat belts according to investigating officer Utah Highway Patrol Trooper Gaylcn Moore. Their vehicle was totalled in an early morning accident Sunday on U.S. 89 near Hatch. The driver, Floyd McKinlay, 18, apparently fell asleep at the wheel four miles south of Hatch about 5:15 a.m. As his right front tire caught the gravel on the west side of the highway, he apparently ovcrcorrcctcd, rolled twice, and hit the side of the hill on the west side, The accident totalled the 1990 Accura Integra. A 16-year-old male riding in the front passenger scat also suffered no serious injuries. A passing truck driver stopped, picked them up and took them into Hatchj where they telephoned their parents and the police. She also transported the two youth to Garfield Memorial Hospital for checkups where McKinlay was treated for an injured knee and his passenger was treated. for glass in his eyes. Moore cited McKinlay for "unsafe lane change." f |
