UHP Issues Citations In Truck Accident On Panguitch Lake Road PANGUITCH A logging truck, headed to Panguitch from the Panguitch Lake area tree harvest with a load of logs overturned just after noon on June 15 near a large culvert that passes under Highway 143, dumping its load of logs on the highway and into Panguitch Creek. David Wallace, 30, Horseshoe Bend, Ida., was driving his 1980 Kcnworth tractortrailer rig loaded with logs from the helicopter logging log-ging operation at Panguitch Lake. As Wallace rounded the curve, apparently ap-parently at an unsafe speed, the truck and trailer tipped onto its right side, dumping die load. A passerby with a mobile telephone tele-phone notified the sheriffs dispatch in Panguitch. Responding were Panguitch Police Chief Martin Nay, Garfield County Sheriffs Deputy Danny Perkins, and Utah Highway Patrol Trooper Gaylcn Moore who investigated the accident acci-dent and issued three citations to Wallace, (1) failure to control on a mountain road, (2) excessive speed, and (3) no scat belt. Wallace escaped with only scrapes and bruises. Dai..ugc to his vehicle was estimated at i. 15,000. One lane of traffic was open and officers of-ficers directed traffic for three hours until workers with Columbia Helicopter Heli-copter out of Portland, Ore. o arrived ar-rived with heavy equipment and offered of-fered their services to right the tractortrailer trac-tortrailer and pull logs from the creek onto the highway for loading. Kevin Frandscn, Panguitch, was contracted to load and haul logs on his truck the following morning. Moore said that additional citations cita-tions may be pending. |
