Show i i i i NFS Seeks Comments On j Proposed Grazing Change The Powell Ranger District of the Dixie National Forest is seeking seek-ing comments on proposed revision to the allotment management plans for the Robinson CanyonLower Blubber, Kanab Creek and Upper Blubber grazing allotments. These allotments are located in the East Fork of the Sevier Sev-ier River drainage approximately 20 miles south and slightly east of Panguitch, Utah. The purpose of the proposed revisions re-visions is to improve water quality and wet habitat areas used by wildlife. Increased sediment in the streams is reducing trout populations popula-tions and spawning success. Heavy vegetation use along the streams contributes to this sediment problem prob-lem and reduces the quality of wildlife habitat. The revisions are also needed to make the allotment management plans consistent with the Dixie National Forest Land and Resource Management Plan. According to District Ranger Carl Guillette, "Livestock grazing is an important use of the National Forests and is consistent with our mission. However, there are serious seri-ous water quality and wildlife habitat problems which we must address. Our mission calls for a continuing flow of natural re- source goods and services. In order ' to provide this continuous flow, we need to protect all resources. ; The proposed revisions could include changes in allotment boundaries, grazing strategies and numbers of animals permitted to graze on the allotments. "We recognize rec-ognize that these proposed changes will not be popular with some people, while others will feel we have not gone far enough. We care about the negative effects these revisions re-visions may have and want to work together to find the solution which minimizes those negative effects. We cannot, however, ignore the problems," said Guillette. For more information or to comment on the proposed changes, contact Carl Guillette or Evan Boshell at P.O.
