Show Pony Express Rides Again PANGUITCH It's not too late to get your letter on the Pony Express as personnel from post offices throughout Garfield County participate in the reenactment of one of the West's most historic events of the early frontier, the Pony Express. Over 100 horseback riders will take part throughout the state in the six-day event, July 31 -Aug. 5 The initial leg of the Pony Express will be ridden by Orderville Postmaster Charlie Robinson, who will leave the Kanab Post Office at 8:30 a.m. on Monday, July 31. Robinson will then relay the saddlebags, filled with specially designed envelopes, to fellow riders, including many from 4-H clubs, along the trail. The Pony Express will arrive in Panguitch at 3 p.m. to deliver and pick up mail and depart the following morning at 8:30 a.m. The Pony Express will stop at five other cities along the way including Richfield, Mt. Pleasant, Provo, Salt Lake City and Ogden before the ride ends in Logan at the Festival of the American West on Saturday, Aug. 5 at 1 p.m. The final leg of the Pony Express between the Logan Post Office and the festival, will be ridden by Logan letter Carrier Gail Redinger. Customers wanting to get a letter on the Pony Express must purchase a specially-designed envelope sold only at post offices in Panguitch, Logan, Ogden, Provo, Mt. Pleasant, Richfield, and Kanab. The postage-paid envelope includes some western art on the front and costs $1.. All mail for the ride must be received by July 28. A special postmark commemorating com-memorating the event will be available at each stop along the trail and applied to each letter. In addition to the Panguitch Post Office, the ride is supported by local post offices in Tropic, Hatch and Escalante. The event was organized by the Bryce Canyon MBP tcajri. I |
