Show Zions Visits Up Over 1983 Figure Travel in Zion National Park totaled 42,409 recreation visits for the month of November. "This represents a 12 percent increase over November 1983", reported Park Superintendent Harold L. Grafe. Total visits for 1984 now equal 1,543,590 persons a 13 percent increase over the same period in 1983. "Campground use totaled 1,953 persons, which is about normal for this time of year," commented Grafe. The Kolob Reservoir Road thorugh Zions National Park was snowed in on the last weekend of November. As of December 2, the snow line was In the Cave Valley area, although 4 wheel drive vhicles could get farther. Grafe reminds all persons using this road that it is not maintenance during the winter months. Travel may be hazardous due to ice and snow conditions. Snowmobiles may be used over unplowed roadways associated with the Kolob Reservoir Road in Zion National Park. Travel off-road is not allowed. Grafe said that the road to Lava Point Lookout has been marked with snowmobile signs because the road route was hidden and confusing when snow covered. Presently there are 18 to 24 inches of snow on the ground in the Lava Point area. "The winter views are magnificent", park rangers report. i |
