Show Miss Barney Competes In Miss Utah Contest Miss Garfield County, Lisa Annette Barney, represented the county in the Miss Utah pageant last week in Orem, The Garfield County beauty queen was selected Miss Garfield County in August, 1983 to reign at the annual Garfield County Fair and represent the county throughout the year at a variety of events, which culminated with the Miss Utah contest June 12- BaiTiey 16 at Mountain View High School in Orem. She is a daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Vermon Barney who reside in Panguitch during the summer months. She has been attending Brigham Young University where she is a junior majoring in physical education and is attending the summer session at Southern Utah State College in Cedar City. In the Orem contest, she competed with 65 young women from all over Utah. They took part in evening gown, swimsuit, and talent competition and had personal interviews during the first three days of competition. On Saturday, all participants took part in the Provo Summerfest Parade. They also prepared a special production number for the final night of competition and enjoyed a banquet at a local country club on their first evening in Orem. Her talent performance was a dance featuring modern dance combined with clogging which she called "Cripple Creek." The final Saturday night competition was televised. The Garfield County beauty said she received flowers from the Garfield County Commission in behalf of the county and she expressed her appreciation for the countywide support of Garfield County residents for making possible her special year as Miss Garfield County. |
