Show Move Headquarters Here, Tropic Requests Garkane Tropic representatives presented an appeal to Garkane Power Association for the company to locate its corporate headquarters in Tropic. Kay Magnum, who serves as chairman of Tropic's special commmitte to woo Garkane to its midst and who also served on the relocation committee designated by the firm, presented the town's case to the company's board of directors at their regular monthly meeting in Richfield. Mangum pointed out to the board that ethically the company should be located on the system which it serves and that economically, it should be located on the system so that some area on the system could benefit from funds generated. He pointed out Tropic's location on maps which demonstrated the community's central position on the system and the accessibility of Tropic from all parts of the system. He noted that to locate the company headquarters somewhere near the edge of the system would result in essentially the same situation which currently exists where the company's general offices are located in Richfield. Tropic's proximity to excellent convention facilities and Bryce Canyon airport were also stressed and the town's commitment to furnish a 10-acre parcel of land situated in an area designated for an industrial park. Banking services through Bank of Iron County in Escalante were also a part of the package offered by the town, the largest in the Bryce Valley area. Other advantages of the location were outlined and board members were presented with packets of additional information about the town. The board-appointed relocation committee had recommended to the board that Garkane's headquarters be moved onto the system and that the board invite communities interested having the power firm present their appeals. At the December 19 meeting and the November board meeting, interested communities explained their areas' attributes and potential benefits to Garkane. No specific date was set by the board for a decision which should recommend one city on the system and give consumers the choice of moving Garkane general offices to that recommended community or leaving it in Richfield. Mangum was accompanied by h's wife, Mureen and Tropic Council member-elect Bob Bradley. |
