Show Gicrry Harvest Near at Capitol Reef CAPITOL REEF NATIONAL PARK The cherries are beginning to ripen at Capitol Reef National Parkland should be ready for picking by July 1. The estimated size .of this year's crop will probably be light to moderate. Superintendent Derek O. Hambly announced that starting Thursday, July 1, and continuing until the cherries are all harvested, designated orchards will be open from 9:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. The cherries are available on a"pick your own"; basis. Pickers are requested to please bring their own ladders. The cherries are high in the trees and climbing in the trees is not permitted for safety purposes and to minimize tree damage. Pickers should also bring their own containers such as boxes. The price will be 45c per pound. Please check at the visitor center or with a park ranger to find out which orchards are open for harvest. This year's apricot crop will be medium to heavy. They should be ripe enough to begin picking by the third week of July. Information on the apricots will be distributed as soon as an opening date has been determined. |
