Show Honor Roll Students Named in Escalante . ESCALANTE -Students named to high honor roll and honor roll for the last quarter were announced by Escalante High school principal Doyle Cottam. In order to be named to the high honor roll, a 'student must achieve a grade point average of 3.7 or above with 4.0 representing an A. Two students achieved the special distinction of a 4.0: senior John Bayles and junior Ethel Lyman. Others achieving 3.7 or above were seniors Gary Christensen, Shane Coleman, Gaden Griffin, Joe Jones, Tracy Mitchell and Rory Mitchell. Juniors named were Stephanie Shurtz and Ronda Barney; sophomores, Tami Coleman, Terry Dutton and Jill Marsh; freshmen, Kathy Bayles, Ward Coombs, and Jerry Hawkes; and eighth graders, Vickie Crawford, Melanie Griffin, and Michelle Simons. Named to the honor roll with a GPA of 3.5 to 3.7 were: seniors, Frank Alvey, Mike Griffin and Beth Williams; juniors, Burke Hafen, George Smith, and Marty Smith; sophomore Nadine Alvey and eighth grader Paula Leibenguth. Escalante's chess team placed third in state competition. Union took first with 11 points; Wasatch, second with 10 and one-half points; and Escalante third with 10 poii.ts. Participating on the Escalante team were John Bayles, George and Marty Smith arid Ricky Crawford. |
