Show Impact Slight In Tar Sand Area According to Superintendent .John Lancaster an En-viromental Assessment and Finding of No Significant Impact has been prepared for proposed test drilling by the Department of Energy in the Tar Sands Triangle within Glen Canyon National Recreation Area. The Department of Energy plans to drill four test wells to obtain tar sands core samples near the Orange Cliffs area to supplement and round out existing data. There will be very little direct impact on the natural resources as all four test wells will be drilled on old drilling locations dating back to the 1950's and no new distrubance will occur. An environmental assessement document is available for public review for a peHod of 30 days and a copy can be obtained from the Superintendent, Glen Canyon National Recreation Area, P. O. Box 1507, Page, Arizona 86040 or from the National Park Service Rocky Mountain Regional Office in Denver, Colorado. Written comments should be sent to the Superintendent, Glen Canyon National Recreation Area at the above address prior to January 22, 1982. |
