Not all responded but the responses of those who did follow. The News commends the public-spirited citizens who have filed for office. Each one Is to be congratulated for his or her interest in the community and a willingness to serve in a capacity that often seems thankless and always takes real personal comltment. There is great satisfaction to be derived, however, from helping to build a better community. Each of the following candidates is willing to try: Antimony CITY COUNCIL, FOUR-YEAR TERM Herbert Rae Anderson, Wayne Delange, Richard Louvier, Alma Lynn Savage. Boulder Larry Davis, Mayor LARRY DAVIS, Mayor Within the next few years the Boulder-Grover road should be completed, providing travelers with a paved, all-weather road. The anticipated increase in traffic will cause some impact on Boulder. The types of impact must be determined and solutions arrived at. Roads in town have been improved during the past year, but additional improvements can be made. The ceramics classes have proven very successful, with the town facilities used by almost every family in town. I look forward to expanding this program and hope to see other crafts introduced as well. The town garbage dump has been an eyesore for a number of years. Every attempt will be made to meet the requirements for solid waste disposal as set forth by the department of Health. Boulder has five Emergency Medical Technicians and an ambulance. The quality of emergency medical services can be improved by having additional people trained and by offering courses such as CPR to all those interested. Television reception in Boulder has deteriorated during the last few years. Every effort will be made to improve the system. I encourage anyone with any questions about my position on any issue to discuss them with me. .....i Donna J. Wilson, mayor DONNA J. WILSON, Mayor Donna Jean Moosman Wilson is a candidate for mayor of Boulder where she entered the world four days before Christmas 42 years ago. An active childhood was spent in Boulder before a marriage which led her across the states and around the world as a military wife. Of all the places seen, Donna chose the red and white sandstone of Boulder as her home. Her life is full of animals, plants, ceramics and community service activities. She wants Boulder always to be an attractive, pleasant place to live. Donna Jean strongly supports the proven ability of Boulder people to care for themselves and to aid each other in times of need., She believes that government should help people help themselves. She wants the Boulder town government to continue support for the people of Boulder in their effort to enhance the qulaity of their lives. CITY COUNCIL, FOUR-YEAR TERM Gladys LeFevre Everyone has a responsiblity to be involved in our has a responsiblity to be involved in our Democratic form of government. It is much easier to sit and watch, but unless we are willing to do our part, we must be satisfied with whatever decision others make. As a property holder I am concerned about rising property taxes and how they are spent. I am definitely opposed to "free money" or "free grants" of any kind. I am interested in developing a community which meets the needs of its people. I am proud of the growth our com munity has made in this direction and hope to see it continue. CITY COUNCIL, TWO-YEAR TERM Mark Nelson If elected to the Boulder City Council it shall be my privilege to represent the people of the Bouldei area. I have worked on Boulder TV for four years and served as past-president and as secretary of the Boulder Cattlemen's Association. I am now serving on the State Board of Soil Conservation and on the Town Water Board. With this experience I feel I can help the community of Boulder by serving on its Town Board. CITY COUNCIL, TWO-YEAR TERM, WRITE-IN Ivan Lyman If elected I will do what I can to keep taxes as low as possible and will do the best I can to put what tax revenue we get to the use which will most benefit the people of Boulder. Cannonville MAYOR Laurie Dea Holley CITY COUNCIL, FOUR-YEAR TERM Michael James Clarke David Evans, City Council, Four-Year Term CITY COUNCIL, FOUR-YEAR TERM David Evans Now that things are moving, I'd like to continue to serve Can-nonville. Your vote for me will . mean that all Cannonville residents are ', represented. tuck Lutes, Uty Council, Four-Year Term CITY COUNCIL, FOUR-YEARTERM Rick Lutes All elected officials should have a com- mitment to those whom they represent to keep them informed of community needs and problems; to be responsive to the input of community members. As Councilman in Cannoville, I will encourage public input into Council decisions, encouraging the citizens to attend regular Council sessions. I will work with other Council members to arrive at positive solutions to questions which arise. Your support is appreciated next Tuesday. Escalante Mohr Christensen, Mayoi , MAYOR I W. M. Christensen If elected I will do my best to serve the people of Escalante and to help in any way to make the town of Escalante prosper. Vote for W. M. Christensen for a progressive government. CITY COUNCIL. FOUR-YEARTERM Arnold Alvey CITY COUNCIL, FOUR-YEARTERM Quinn Griffin For years now people have been waiting for our community to grow due to development of our natural resources. Unfortunately there are some with the "I'll believe it when I see it" nttihiHA in urhirh pacn it will be too late for the preparation needed to handle the influx of people that will take place. Too many cannot build in our area now because of the lack of culinary water, etc. My primary concern is for an organized plan for expansion for our community. CITY COUNCIL, FOUR-YEARTERM Helen Shrutz Escalante is my home. I respect the people who live here. If the people choose to again elect me to serve on the town board, I promise only to use my best judgment in what would be best for the people and our community. CITY COUNCIL, FOUR-YEARTERM Robert Woolsey Three main points stand out as I think of Escalante's needs. ' "y- If Robert Woolsey, City Council, Four-Year Term First, zoning is important prior to expansion from coal and oil resources to prevent disorganized growth. Second, several outlying areas of town should be annexed so that growth can take place in these areas with full utility service. Third, the town board should support and encourage controlled new industry and business to bring prosperity to the people and the community. Our area is slowly ?oing backwards. Without growth and industry we will lose our schools and the active people who keep the community alive and going. Hatch MAYOR Mervin Barnhurst CITY COUNCIL, TWO-YEAR TERM Garth Heap CITY COUNCIL, TWO-YEAR TERM Wiley Huntington CITY COUNCIL, FOUR-YEARTERM S. Leland Riggs CITY COUNCIL, FOUR-YEARTERM Shirley WUhelm I was born and reared in Hatch and I'm proud of my heritage. I think the people here are the greatest. They try their best to make it a good place to live and rear (Continued on Page S) Profile of Candidates For Garfield (Continued irom Page u their families. I believe we all have a i responsibllty to our community and that's what I want to do pitch in and try to do my share. HenrievUle Rliey miller. Mayor MAYOR Riley Miller My prime concern is the culinary water system. The filters should be placed back on the line, repairs made to faulty areas and equip ment and a "preventive maintenance" program instituted to prevent conditions that now exist. Next would be the streets grading, repairing, and maintaining and ridding them of weeds and other growth. I would complete the sidewalk project now in progress. My third objective would be to develop a city park that could be used by all the citizens of Henrieville, and others as well, to picnic or whatever. By working together with the people of our community, these goals can be accomplished. CITY COUNCIL, FOUR YEAR TERM Be mice Goulding r i CITY COUNCIL, FOUR-YEAR TERM Janet LeFevre If elected to the City i Council, I would like to express my sincere desire to serve, support and sustain and work with others in office to the best of my ability. If elected, I shall feel it an honor to serve. Tropic Evan Chynoweth, Mayor MAYOR Evan Chynoweth Tropic has a lot to offer its citizens with its unique Obllllg UI1UC1 UIC 1 1111 VI Bryce Canyon National Park. It has a peaceful atmosphere and a J friendly welcome to ' everyone. I have spent most of my ! life here and believe that ' my interest in this ' community derives from 1 those who live here now ' ' as well as those who have died here to make this a better place in which to rear our families. There has been a signficiant contribution to our public interest in recent years. If elected Mayor, I would continue to build and add to that which has been started such as utilities,, streets and;sidewralks,;pat-k andj recreation, cemetery improvements, law enforcement, city property, zoning capabilities and all other relevant public issues. I would try to be fair and be interested in each resident and his concerns. I feel that it is extremely important that all public officials support those values that our great nation is built upon. In our local area there are three basic areas that bind us as a community and as a people agriculture, timber, and parks and recreation, If elected Mayor I will direct my attention to and support these priorities. S. Todd Stubbs, Mayor MAYOR S. Todd Stubbs Due to the hard work of past leaders here in rropic, we have all the basics nicely paved streets and sidewalks, a beautiful park, water television, etc. They form a good solid foundation for the next phase in Tropic's history: Economic growth. If we want further community developments and refinements, they will be dependent upon what economic growth can be brought to Tropic; what industries can be brought "over the hump. But, this growth must be basedjm cooperation instead Tf competition between the towns of Bryce Valley. Too often in the past we have allowed differences of opinion sway us from those things which would be most beneficial to all the communities, individually and collectively. The fact is, cooperation alone will build an economic base large enough to support the larger industries that will be needed to boost our standard of living. With growth, other benefits will accrue lower prices due to increased availability of goods, increased land values, and cultural refinements. The next mayor of Tropic will have to be someone who can explore every possible new industry with an eye to bring them here. It must be someone who will work with the other towns. I pledge to do all that I am able to research and seek out those industries that would accomplsih this and encourage them to look us over. TROPIC CITY COUNCIL Ella Adair I am interested in our community and would very much like to see it grow and progress. I would like to see the projects that have been started for community beautification continued, and our town made as Ella Adair. Tropic City Council, Four-Year Term attractive as the area in which we live. Good leadership is essential for progress, and I feel that we have many things that can be accomplished. I have several ideas that may be developed, if I have the opportunity to present them as a member of the city council. CITY COUNCIL, FOUR-YEARTERM Ferrell Brinkerhoff CITY COUNCIL, FOUR-YEARTERM Rick Bybee i Ixuilse Ott, City Council, Four-Year Term CITY COUNCIL. FOUR-TERM Louise Ott Thanks so much for your support in the primary. While livng in Nevada I was active in "Eagle Forum" where I learned what a privilege it is to be an American citizen. The last four letters in American are "I can!" With your support" I can" represent you on the City Council to the best of my ability. My grandmother was one of the first white children born outside of the old Panguitch fort. I feel that I will be able to work with the City Council members and City Manager. I have had much experience working with the public and helping people with many of their problems. I would like to see more citizen involvement in our community. We need to be more informed about what is going on. Our new bank has really made an improvement in the beautiflcation of our town. This is an area that needs improvement constantly. I am in favor of the proposed sprinkling system. I feel it would be very beneficial to our community. We need adequate law enforcement which we do not have at this time. I feel that I am capable of working under stress and pressure which any public servant has to some extent. MAYOR Jon Lee Torgerson My name is Jon Lee Torgerson. I would like to serve the citizens of Panguitch as your mayor for the next four years. My wife's name is Mavis and we have three daughters. Jessica is five, Jon Torgerson, Mayor Angela, three, and Erica is three weeks. We have lived in Panguitch for over 10 years. During that time I have served in various positions that would help me in making sound decisions as our mayor. I have been president and secretary for the Chamber of Commerce. I have served as City Councilman for a four-year term during which time I was chairman of the Variance Committee. For the last two years I have been acting as chairman of the Zoning and Planning Commission and as fire chief. of Panguitch. If elected, I I would strive to maintain unity in the City Council, whereby we may work to acquire the economic and cultural improvements we as a community desire. I believe we can attain these goals without threatening the quality of our lifestyle. I would sincerely ap predate your support. James II. Excell, City Council, Four-Year Term COUNCIL COUNCIL, FOUR-YEAR TERM James II. Excell Fellow voters and friends: my policy, if elected, will be to try my best to keep taxes as low as possible and to spend the taxpayers' money to the best advantage. I don't believe in handing out the dole. I think any able-bodied person should earn the pay he receives. I believe in a democratic form of government wherein the voice of the people is heard. Brian Foy, City Council Four-Year Term ij j ji i i k j CITY COUNCIL. , FOUR-YEAR TERM 1 Brian Foy I am running for city council because I feel I each person has an obligation to fulfill some type of public service. I'm not running against the past administration as I feel they've done a commendable job. I do believe though that new ideas are needed and progress can be made. For example, I would emphasize the policy of hiring more local people for city jobs. I would also like to see a campaign for beautiflcation of Panguitch. Also perhaps as policy to promote new industry in our city. If elected I hope to bring these ideas and more to the attention of the city council and the people or the community. Lowell V.
