Show Weatherization To Provide Area Jobs Garfield County will receive $150,000 from the Economic Development Administration (EDA) to help fund a weatherization project to help create jobs, Utah senators Jake Gam and Orrin Hatch announced. EDA, an agency in the Department of Commerce, will make the contribution to complete the $187,500 total cost of the weatherization project. The agency made the grant to help create immediate construction jobs for the unemployed, and to stimulate economic growth in Garfield County. Weatherization projects usually involve improvements to buildings to reduce energy losses and lower fuel consumption, including installation of new insulation, new windows and doors, and roof and furnace repairs. Garfield County has targeted several buildings for remodeling, including the Garfield County Courthouse; town halls at Boulder, Cannonville, Escalante, Hatch, Henrieville and Tropic; and to the city shops, jail, library and social hall, all at Panguiteh. Garfield County will provide $37,500 to complete the $187,500 total cost of the weatherization project. |
