Show Bryce Communities Arts Festival Set Art, drama, music, and dance will all be a part of the Bryce Canyon Communities Arts Festival which opens April 19 and continues through May 3. Students at Escalante High school, under the direction of Louise Liston, of the drama department will present two one act plays at each of the high schools in the county. The first performance will take place at Escalante High School April 30, at Panguitch High School May 1 at 2 p.m., and at Bryce Valley High School May 1 at 7:30 p.m. Dance demonstrations under the direction of Janice Hatch will also be presented at each of the high schools on April 25 with examples of various types of dance including jazz, classical ballet, tap, and creative dance. The group will travel to Escalante for a morning performance, to Bryce Valley in the afternoon, returning to Panguitch for an evening performance. Band and chorus concerts under the direction of Barry Erickson will be presented at Panguitch High School on April 18 at 7:30 p.m.; at Bryce Valley High School April 28 at 7 : 30 p.m. , and at Escalante High School April 30 at 7:30 p.m. Widely recognized professional artist Lois Brown will demonstrate portrait painting as part of the arts festival. A graduate of the Famous Artists Schools, slie has studied at the Salt Lake Art Center and under several prominent portrait artists in Utah and California. Mrs. Brown who has exhibited her paintings in several one man shows in the Salt Lake City-Ogden area and in galleries throughout the Southwest including Tucson and Sedona, Arizona; Jackson, Wyoming; and Denver, Colorado, will demonstrate her techniques on April 27 to all interested Garfield county residents without charge. The art exhibit to be held in conjunction with the festival will open April 18 at Bryce Valley High School with more than 200 professional paintings by artists from California, Nevada, Utah, Arizona, and Idaho.
