Show Hatch Youth Drowned In Lake Powell During Church Outing HATCH - Samue! Riggs. 16, Hatch, was drowned while fishing at Warm Creek Bay area of Lake Powell Saturday. While Riggs was fishing from the bank with friends, he apparently slipped on the steep sandstone slope and was unable to pull himself from the water. According to National Park Service personnel who investigated the tragedy, neither Riggs nor his companions were experienced swimmers. Rescue attempted by his friends were futile Young Riggs' father, who was about a quarter mile away at a campsite, was summoned, but by the time he arrived Samuel Kiggk at the scene, the boy was still in the water and attempts were underway to find the body. National Park Service divers recovered the body from about 20 feet of water Riggs, along with his father, were attending a Hatch LDS Ward fathers and sons outing when the mishap occurred. |
