Additional nominations for board members will also be accepted at the session. the regular meeting of the board will be held Thursday noon at the Double-D Cafe in Escalante. It is expected that the request made last month by the company's board of directors for customers' voluntary reduction of electricity consumption will be reaffirmed. In a company newsletter, officials said that the request for a reduction of power use by 20-percent is not Intended to apply to industrial or commercial operations which would result in a loss of jobs or curtail other energy production. "We must face reality and accept the fact that something has to give," the letter stated. "Under present conditions, the more electrical energy our consumers use, the more higher priced wholesale Garkane will have to purchase. Garkane will then have to raise the rates to pay for the more costly power. There is even a possibility that there will not be any additional power available at any price until well into our summer season," the letter said. |
