Show I, Escalante Miss Selected For Stale Princess Title Escalante Chit Chat BY FAY ALVEY Those who dreamed of a white Christmas had nightmares of mud, we got all the rain we should have had in the summer. If all the moisture had been snow It would have been up to our ears and not when we were standing on our heads either. Everyone seemed to have survived the big days so can probably last the year out. Most folks either left town or had family members home; the Lorenzo Griffins had Lois Reeves and family from Las Vegas, the Claron Griffins and the Clyde Spencers had Jim and Janet Spencer and family of Orem. Mildred Adair had Bill and Sharon Francisco and boys of Cedar City and Shared Warren and Kathleen Woolsey and boys, with the Dale Marshes. Paul and Gayla Cardon and family of Cedar City were at the Nell Barkers. Bonnie and Holbert Smith and son Robert of Cedar City. Al and Leda Mae Foster and family of Tropic were at the Billie Davis home. The Vernon Stowes had Ronnie and family of Oregon, Stanley and Marlene and son from Kanosh, the latter they shared with the Delane Griffins. Stan Liston was quite a tourist; went to Pangultch with Reeves Baker to help drive, made two trips to Cedar City, one to meet son Brad, the other to meet Lois and bring them home. The Listons also had daughter Bunny Goulding here from Nevada. Grcna Kae and Mike Searle brought Twila Mc-Inelly home, they stopped in Pangultch and helped Kent and Phlllls upholster a couch. Twila was gone seven weeks and said she was glad to be home. Judy and Lynn Griffin came for Christmas. James and Millie Mclnelly and son Vera Arthur went to Seattle, Wash, for the holiday. Malt and Nelda Spencer spent it in Salt Lake City with Lael and family. Dan and Mattle Hakes and family packed up their worldly possessions and moved to Calif. The Elmer Smiths went to that State to spend Christmas with their son. Reeves and Laura Baker had had a nice surprise Christmas day; daughter Laurel and family of Orem brought dinner and shared It with them. Guy and Vonda Pollock visited them. The Pollocks had dinner with Allen and Lavina. Eva-dean and Beth Liston went to Richfield to meet Jim and Lola Alvey and bring Lola and the baby home, they had the flu and Jim is a better carpenter than doctor, he came for Christmas. LaVee Neely and three kids and a friend Steve Wiscombe came from Orem Christmas day and stayed overnight. LaVee had to work during the holidays so left the kids here, they are all helping with the news. LaVee's dad told her not to forget to come back for her belongings. Dot and Anthony Coombs of Boulder brought the turkey for dinner. The Blake Robinsons had Kay and Juana Staples and daughter of Richfield, Mate and Ruth Baugh of Tropic, Re-nee and Ben Porter and part of their family from Provo. Grant Liston had sons Mark and Lee home, also David and Marlyn Griffin. Ernie and Betty Hill and family were at the Dean Gledhill home. Mary Er-rett Is home and she says It Is for good. She sold her big car to Ivan and Nelda Willis and got a small one. Just big enough for her and the cats. Carlvin and Larctta Shurtz had son Don home from his Job in the Dakotas, his hair Is still growing. Dorthy and Newell Cowles and son were also here from Richfield. The Riding Club party had a good turn out, delicious food and an exchange of white elephants so that everyone got Just what they needed. (continued Inside) Miss Jan Liston. daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert N. Liston of Escalante was named "Miss Utah Beef Princess Of 1972" at the annual convention of the Utah Cattlemen and Cow-belles. Miss Liston was one of eleven entries in this contest. First runner-up was Cathy Christofferson of Brigham City, Second Runner-up was Marie Dillard of Grantsville. Miss Liston is currently attending Southern Utah State College at Cedar City. The winner and other entrants are shown here with Mrs. A. D. Findlay of Kanab, contest chairman. Bill and Dawn Griffin had Boyd and Trudy, Nlckl and Evan and family. The Vernon Griffins have Festos home on furlough from Colorado. Raymond and Marsha moved to Pangultch where he Is working now. Mr. and Mrs. Jim Oldham of Pangultch visited the Que Porters and the Alfred Chionas. Mabel Griffin and Ja-neen Alvey went to Richfield to visit Caroline Eyre. Slim took a sore tooth to Richfield and let me and his mother go along. The tooth quit hurting by the time we got there and it was good as the dentist was gone. Walt and Flora Leibenguth and Marie Porter were there, Walt was trying out love seats. Other Porters there were Vegene, Mi-na, Vegeanla and Cline. Doyle Cottam took a tractor down and came home with Porters. The Smith Alveys had Linda and Jay Stakes home from Tooele, they run a wheel off enroute and came in on two lugs and a prayer. The Reed Wooleys had son Ronnie and family here from Salt Lake City. Hyrum and Mary Ellen Coleman went to Beaver. Ivan and Nelda Willis to Richfield. Ott and Hilda Roundy had Vernon Dean and family, Renon and Gene Reed and family. In meeting Sunday the college kids predominated, the South ward speakers were Reed and Stan Munson. Dave Francisco, Dahl Llston, Evelyn Lyman, Kent Osborn, Terry Gates, Jan Llston, Helen Alvey, Jim Spencer, Wayne Banks and Lynn Griffin. The North ward listened to Julie Christensen, Analee Spencer, Mirian Cottam, Kay Lynn Shurtz, Verg-eanla Porter and Cal Porter. Karen Cottam, Areola Gates played a piano and organ duet Christmas Is finally over with all the fuss and frills, all that's left is memories, hangovers and the bills. |
