Holy Cross hospital to Dr. Henrie who said the hip was not broken but badly bruised and the ligaments stretched, so she will be hospitalized for some time. Forest Alvey is in the Panguitch hospital and has been for a week. Ruth went to Kanab to visit LaDell and family. Vergene Porter took son Kevin, and Clyde and Lillie Spencer north where Kevin and Clyde had appointments with their doctors; Kevin was improving but not as fast as the doctor would like, Clyde was getting along remarkably well and will go back In January for another checkup. Clyde and Iillle passed their Golden Wedding anniversary Oct. 12th very quietly as they thought Clyde was not able to party, If they had known what the doctor was going to tell him they could have put on a regular open house. Wanles and Dena Alvey went to Salt Lake City to attend the awards ceremony and tea held In the Garden Center, Sugar House Park to honor the winners In the Civic Beautlfl-catlon contest and had their pictures taken with the other winners. Benevlve H. Folsom presented them the award and said they had more points than any of the others. Bill and Clo-rlne Vldrln accompanied them, and came home with a new car. They visited Dawnle and Dick Lee and family in Syra-cuse. Bill and Cloiine had business In Parowan. , Lance Hatch is going on an LDS mission to Hong Kong; his testimonial was held last week in the South ward church, his brother Mike camo from Hayward, Calif., his father Logan from Reno, Nevada, other relatives Mr. and Mrs. DeLoy Carter and three kids, Van, Brett and Debbie. Gall and Donna Bailey took Lance to Salt Lake City to enter the mission home where he will spend several days then go to Hawaii to learn the Cantonese language before leaving for Hong Kong. Alta Henderson and Gretha Twitchell of Cannonville visited hero with Ndia Willis. Pauline and Dennis Lott have a baby girl, their older daughter goes to school. We Join MUdred Adair and the Randal Lymans in being proud of Milton Woolsey who Just received his Master's Degree In school administration. Chase and Helen Shurtt have a grandson born to Annette and Michael McCool In Seal Beach, Calif. They have Just Sarah home with them now, Marlon went back to school at the University of Utah, Dale and Susan Wilson to SUSC. ,uwen ana Kanaai Lyman ana daughter Evelyn had quite a trip, traveled over 4000 miles and were in nine states visiting such important places as the Herbert Hoocer museum at West Branch, Iowa, the Harry S. Truman Library in. Independence, Missouri, Nauvoo and all of the Mormon leaders old homes and historic places. They went to Illinois to visit daughter Deanna and family. While in Iowa they called at the home of Glenna Banks but she was not home. There is usually some thing to take the Joy out of a trip, this time It was hurrying to get Evelyn back so she would not miss school. Hal and Geneal Shurtz had all of their family home; Kim Nelson brought Vlckl and the baby to stay a week, Valeree and Stan Huntington were Dixie college. The Ron Schows had Kathy and Bill Smith here from Mesquite, Nevada. Howard Munson and son Steven were here from Cedar City. Tom Jackson of Ely, Nevada visited here at the Beryl Shurtz home, and it was not Just Beryl he came to see. He Is going on an LDS mission to Taiwan and has to learn the Mandarin language. Leah and Arnold Button met son Lynn In Salt Lake City and brought him home, he Just completed a mission in New Zealand. Mary and LaVern Griffin went to Cedar City to the ey doctor, they had planned on staying all night but the wind blew so hard they came back. Doug and Barbara Haycock came and brought a camp trailer to use during the hunt, Doug quit the State and went on construction. The Ed Michells have Gayla and Jerry here from Calif. Hazel, Richard and Alen Griffin went to Richfield. Wanda Hansen of Kennewick, Washington flew to Salt Lake City and Joined a friend of the family, Aleen Riser and daughter Kathy who brought her here to visit at the S. J. Alvey home. Frankie and Ronald Freeman and three children of Las Vegas came also, then Betty and Chan McJnelly and two boys came from Wlcheta, Kansas. The Mclnellys stayed at Twlla's but visited at Alveys. Wanda brought a message from, a former resident; Gertrude Wilson, widow of Dr, Alma Wilson, Is In a rest homo In Richland, Washington, she Is recovering from a heart attack and enjoys news from home. Wanda takes her the Garfield County News and she sent greetings to all her friends In this area. Relatives, friends and sympathetic citizens went from here to the funeral services of Lane Ruesc.i wd Gary Clark. Relatives hero got word that Dorene Schow had heart surgery and is doing well. PTA meeting was held under the leadership of President Judy Brooks. Dress and hair standards were discussed, the majority were in favor, of having restrictions. In Sacrament, meeting Sunday the South ward speakers were Don Heap and Randal Lyman, the North listened to Beth Llston, Blanche Hakes -tnd Julie Shurtz, Clele Fletch-- talked and showed a film. Brian Griffin and Terrill Haws were graduated from the Primary and ordained deacons. Experience is a good teacher and seems to be always a-round, some learn to benefit, others are knocked to the ground. |
