Show Beaver Beats 'Cats 24-0, Milford Here On Thursday Because of the deer bunt the football game scheduled to be played here on Friday against Milford has been moved up to Thursday,, October 21H Game time will be 4:30. This will be the Panguitch Homecoming. On some fine play calling, good offensive blocking and the hard running of Kevin Lee and Garth Draper, Beaver romped for three quick TD's In the first quarter against the Pan-guitch Bobcats Friday afternoon. Catching the Bobcat defense off guard with quick openers, draws and the delayed cross-buck, the Beavers broke Lee In the open for two touchdowns and Draper for one. Draper added the two point conversion on each occasion with plunges through the 'Cat line to make the score 24-0. In the second quarter the 'Cat defense found itself and sparked by the alert play of Birch Moore and Ken Berry went on to hold the Beavers scoreless the rest of the afternoon. However, It was too late to change the complexion of the game. Beaver had a 24-0 lead and their hardhitting def ensive team was not about to let the 'Cats change that Only once were the 'Cats given a scoring opportunity, that came on a pass interception by Russell Allen, which he ran back 75 yards to the Beaver 5 before being brought down. The threat was short-lived however, as the strong Beaver defense stepped in and forced the 'Cats to turn the ball over. It was a more experienced and well disciplined Beaver team the 'Cats faced Friday and this may have been the difference In the game. One thing for sure Is that the 'Cat loss was not the result of lack of desire, effort or heart on the part of each and every Panguitch Bobcat player. They went to Beaver Intent on spoiling the Beaver homecoming and coming home with the victory. BOBCAT JV'S LOSE 14-8 Last Thursday a deserving group of young Bobcat Junior Varsity football players were given a chance to demonstrate their ability in a game against the Kanab JV's, The game matked a first for Panguitch in JV football play, and, In looking at the support the 'Cats had on the sidelines, we would have to say it was fully accepted. The 'Cats team was slow in starting and as can be expected with a team playing together for the first time, mistakes would be made, and In the first quarter Panguitch had their share of them. The Cowboys were quick to take advantage of the 'Cat mistakes and got off to an early 14 0 lead. By the second quarter the 'Cats got rid of their butterflies and with the determination to prove themselves, they pushed the effects of their mistakes aside and settled down to play as a team. As a result they held the Cowboys scoreless the balance of the game; came back with a 30-yard pass play, Gary Church to Kim Sop-er, for a TD and Kelvin Yat-zle added to make the score 14 8. The 'Cats continued to play well throughout the 4th quarter but the Cowboys man aged to hang on to their lead to win by the 14 to 8 score. |
