Show Escalante Chit Chat BY FAY ALVEY The snow keeps coming little skiffs at a time and clouds hang around, seems a bit premature but there is nothing we can do about it except moan. The sick are all holding their own; Bonnie Chiono is ready to come home so Alfred went up but her doctor did not release her. Pole and Judy Griffin took Ray and Lenora to Provo where Ray had an appointment with his doctor who told him he was getting along fine and to come back in six months. They visited Layton and LaRue Griffin. Layton is in and out of the hospital having quite a struggle. Bill and Dawn Griffin took son Brian back to his doctor, visited their new grandson and brought Ray and Lenora home. Arnold Alvey went back for a checkup, accompanied by Sar-iah, Deon and myself, he Is enough better to have his next appointment two weeks away. Dean and Janle Gledhill have a baby boy, they are still in Duchesne and the phone lines were down so it was several days before relatives here received the glad tidings. Stan and Jan Llston went to California for the christening of that new grandson born to Lana and Don Lord, they had a family dinner and good visit. Elmer and Lillian Smith made it home ok from their trip to Arkansaw where they visited his mother and other relatives. They cut their visit short on account of Bonnie Chiono having her leg amputated, they wanted to be on hand to help if needed. Elmer was all tired out from one han- ded driving then louna nis yard filled with tree limbs broken by the heavy snows. Guy and Vonda Pollock and son came from Richfield to winterize Lavina's house and took her to Cedar City to get on the bus and go to California for a visit with Fay Van Oostendorp and family. The Pollocks also visited Reeves and Laura Baker who had some more relatives. Baker Og-den and wife of Richfield who had business In Pangultch and came on over. The Bakers got word that their nephew Richard Leslie George, son of Homer and Cle-ma in Salt Lake had been called to labor in the French-Swiss mission stationed at Geneva. Switzerland. He will spend 8 weeks at BYU learning the Fr- ench language. The young .man's parents and both sets of grandparents were natives of Escalante. Orilla and Daniel Cowles went to Richfield where she had an appointment with her doctor. Kathryn Coleman took her mother Bessie Griffin to Salt Lake to the Holy Cross hospital. Starns Mecham and Janeen Alvey went to Provo. Vera Davis got word that Mel-etta Cottam was hospialized in Provo. Hyrum and Mary Ellen Coleman had quiet a trip; went to Wayne County to get Parley Coleman, on to Price and were Joined by Bessie Thatcher, then to Colorado Springs where they spent two days visiting Gaye and Chloe, then to Nebraska where Ada lives. There was a foot of snow In Nebraska which came before the harvesting was finished so caused a big loss to the farmers. They went through several snow storms and struck icy roads in places so were glad to ret home safely. Nell Barker went to St. George to spend Thanksgiving with Paul and Gayla Cardon. Darrell and Dianne Alvey went north for the golden spike celebration, Darrel and John Norman met Ray L. Alvey in Gunnison where they did some horse trading. Valeree Huntington and baby were at the Hal Shurtz home. Vernon and Mont Griffin went to Pangultch to the Doctor others having business here were Babs Neal Betty Alvey and Kim Lawrence. Mr. and Mrs. Osmer Nellson of Parowan had business in our village. The Bill Vidrines have daughter Annette here. Judy Griffin took daughter Karol and son Kacie to Cedar City to the dentist. Those going to Salt Lake for the weekend were Irene Alvey, Marjie Spencer, Patrice Haws, Camille Spencer, Margo Gates, Donene Llston, Janice Haycock, Theron and Dixie Mitchell and girls. Gail and Donna Bailey went to Las Vegas and Phoenix to visit relatives. Lane and Geraldlne Llston, son Gary and daughter Sherri spent the weekend In Las Vegas with the Ron Mechanist In . Bill and Sharon Francisco and family were at the Mildred Adair home for the weekend. Pat and Dob Soren-sen have their mothers here from Michigan, Alice So re risen and Florence Hansen. They had been in Arizona so this snow storm was quite a change. The Glen Shaws and the Phil Bales got an early start to celebrate Thanksgiving. Did any one raise a squash bigger than 85H lbs. and 48 inches long? Edson Alvey raised it, the banana variety. Lettle and Hilo Boyce had daughter Ardlth Alexander and four kids here from Ogden. The Cub Scouts held their pack meeting and the 4-H achievement night was held. Sariah Alvey almost had a houseware party, the representative wrecked her car en-route from Cedar City so it was postponed. If a person talks continuously you can safely bet they're sure to say a lot of things they haven't thought of yet. |
