Melvin Alvey went to Salt Lake and brought Florence and Lucinda home, Ludnda has both feet In' casts and is not to put any weight on either, so she gets carried around. Brad Spencer went to Pan-gultch to have his arm checked, he still has the cast. Slim and Mother Alvey went over before breakfast for those diabetic tests, they let me go along so went to Little's Ranch, Mother had been to the doctor but was feeling better, missed Kay as he had business in Pan gultch Mother Alvey and Slim were pronounced ok but warned to watch for symptons. Daniel Cowles is a potential diabetic but not serious. Donna Bailey has it. We visited Johnny Thompson ind Pad Spen car, both patients in the hospital, they hac" been roommates but were separated. Melba Gates had a vu.it from the three sisters of her late husband Gaden, they were Lola Bird and Virginia Horn of Salina and Louise Dutton from Long Beach, Calif. Dean Gled hill and Darrell Alvey took Dl-anne and the kids to Panguitch to catch the bus to go meet her sister In Flsgstaff for a visit Gail Bailey and Claron Griffin each took a car load of Stake MIA workers to Salt Lake City for conference Mary Ellen and Hyrum Coleman had visits from Dolly and Melvin Forbush of Monroe and Herman and Maud Spencer of Salt Lake. The Beumont Griffins had son Devoe Scovtlle and family here from Calif. Minnie and Vera Davis and Sariah Alvey went to Tropic and got Leda Mae Foster and went to Richfield. Geraldine Listen was there for a dental appointment. Shanna Goulding and ten other nurses were here to see the scenery of the area. Dr. Kazan was here for a baby clinic besides his regular days. Nan and McKlnley Morrell of Junction visited at the Blake Robinsons. The Vincent Spencers have son Vernon and wife Susie here from Calif. Kathy Spencer Is in Mesquite, Nevada staying with Danny and Lois. Dicey Coombs had daughter Glenna, her husband Wayne Banks and all of their family except the boy who la on a mission. Douglas could not stay long as he has just been admitted to the Bar and had to get back to Illinois where they all live. The BLM had a farewell party for Jim Reed who Is leaving this area. Dawn Griffin took son Bryan back to Salt Lake for a checkup. Geneal Shurtz went to Cedar City Champ Church and son came from Panguitch to do some painting The Hode Alveys have a new grandson born to Lee and Thelma Smith of Henrieville, he Is number four, an older brother said It looked like Mama did not know how to get girls Hode and Ha have the boys snd they keep the old swing making Its usual squeak If our daughter ReNae were here to yodel it would sound like old times Dee snd Elda Haws have grandsons Dean I continued ESCALANTE ( continued from front page ) and Gallyn Mclnelly here visiting. Dot Coombs came from Boulder and we took Sariah Alvey to Richfield for a Smith family reunion, her mother's people. It lasted two days so we came home and Deon and Arnold went for her the next day. She was put In Pres. for next year. Ordella Davis 1st vice pres., Martha Dlckensen 2nd vice pres. and Ethyl Peterson sec. One relative told her she was put in on account of her hat made out of a plastic Jug. She got two prizes, a scarf for being the oldest one there and a box of stationary for having been married the longest. Glover and Beth Smith and Jimmy were In Richfield, so was Koleen Griffin. The solitude of Jane Woolsey was brought to an abrupt end when daughter Vada, her husband Edward Martin and their four kids came from Florida; then Clema and Roe Barney and three kids came from Page. Roe had to go back to his Job but Clema and the kids stayed. The Lions Club held a chicken fry at Calf Creek officially Installing the new officers; Grant Thorson is president, Lorell Munson vice pres., Whi-tey Porter sec., Billle Davis is chairman of the recreation committee with Reed Wooley and Beryl Shurtz as helpers They had 40 people present. The Golden Wedding party of the Lorln Cottams was held as scheduled but first they went to Salt Lake City for the wedding of their grandson, Rhea's son, she and Julian were there but did not feel up to coming here, he Is recovering from Injuries received in a car wreck, one of these hit from behind deals which ruins the neck. Thev put on the program in the North ward Sacrament meeting; Lorln gave the Invocation, Tomy, son of Garl, played a piano solo, "I Walked Today Where Jesus Walked." the younger grandkids sang. "In My Grandmother's Old Fash ioned Garden." Poem by Ran dy Neal telling about the fam lly Saturday night bath. Quar tet by Marlyn King. Christine Neal, Charla Creek and Rose Marie Cot tarn Larene Neal and Elna Creek sang. "My Mom" accompanied by Areola Gates. Jimmy Neal gave a tribute to his grandparents. Benediction was by Sheila Cottam. They went to the family home where open house was held serving punch and cookies, many friends and relatives called to pay respects. Meletta looked so pretty in her gold dress and shoes Isabell Spencer told her ahe would probably not look that nice again until she was In her coffin 'happy thought) The Wayne Barneys brought daughter Joan Semones and three kids from Scotsdale, Ariz, then Joe will come for them. They had left their car in Scotsdale and flew to Koanoke, Va. where daughter Jean, her husband George lkard and three girls live. Te oldest one Carol graduated from high school so that was their excuse for going. They went to Washington, D.C. and took a seven hour bus tour of all places of interest, including the White House, Lyndon was evidently not expecting them so was not home. One of the security guards spoke to Wayne and It has bothered him ever since wondering who It could be. They saw Resurrection City, places where money and stamps are printed, Bobby Kennedy's grave and all the other tourist attractions. They visited historic places in Virginia, Mt. Vernon and other places. We were lucky enough to visit the Barney home on tone's birthday and sampled her cake. They had Jill and Kent Leigh come to fish and visit. The Berlin Osborns had all of their family home for the first time in many years; Milton, his wife and three kids came from Rockiiill. So. Caro lina, their first visit in three years and when they were here then, David was not so they had a nice visit this time. Another letter from Mark listen told of his narrow escape, he and three other fellows went to bring in an injured man and the other three were killed, Mark was back at a base when he wrote. The Eld red Mitchells had son Garlan and family from Cedar City and the Dale Marshes had Virginia Bauer, and Shirley had her parents the Max Heaps, all from Cedar. Jim Reynolds is to be stationed permanently in Escalante in the capacity of a Road cop. He was born and raised here, graduated from the local high school In '49. After serving in the Navy for four years, he was released. He married Effie Miller of Pangultch. they have four children, two of each. For 10 years he has been employed In law enforcement at Kanab. Welcome home Jim. His one problem Is finding a place to live but Is in the process. Vacation time la fine for some, swim or fish or lay In the sun, but what about the tired souls who cook and wash the dirty bowls? |
