Show Snow, Snow And More Snow And Eighteen Below Zero U.S. FOREST SERVICE NEWS Cold temperatures occurring on Thursday, Dec 21, spiced an already Christmas like scene. The snow depths varied around Panguitch from 10 to 20 inches. Scattered reports of snow depths from other areas indicate. Tropic from 15 to 25 Inches, Bryce Canyon Airport at 32 inches, Panguitch Lake at 30 inches and the East Fork of the Sevier River near Tropic Reservoir at 40 inches. Old Timers in the area report this year's storm as being as heavy a storm as they can remember , this early in the year. Winter dln't officially arrive until Dec. 22nd Snow and cold temperatures resulted in a multitude of pro blems for the cattlemen and the motorist. The normal procedure to move a vehicle from a parking spot is one person driving and three pushing. School children preoccupied with the Christmas Season seem to be resisting the weather as much as anyone. Their only outward signs are snow covered clothing and dripping noses. High temperature for the past week, Dec. 14 to 21, was 34 recorded on Friday, Dec. 15. This was the only day the mercury rose above freezing. All other daytime highs were freezing or below. Low temper ature occurred on Thursday, Oct 21, a frigid -It. (For the mathematician this is 50 degrees below freezing.) This is also the low temperature for the season. Precipitation measured for the week was 1.17 inches This brought the total for the month to 1.34 inches and for the month 19.06 inches. This now totals 1.41 inches a-hove the highest precipitation vear on record. 1910, with 15 65 inches. The personnel of the Dixie National Forest wishes everyone a joyous holiday season. |
