Show Escalante Chit Lha BY PAY ALVEY This weather ia so freakish it is practically unbelievable, it rains all around us and we get flash floods which takes out fences and maroons our citizens where they would rather not be. The Good Book says it rains on the just and the unjust so we must be neither. There are activities planned for the 24th; a parade and program in the forenoon, children's dance and sports in the afternoon followed by a Little League ball game, and a dance in the gym at night. Of course everyone is invited. There are always enough ailing folks to make Dr. Kazan's trip worth while but we did not hear of any emergencies. The Hode Alveys have a new grandson born to their only son Boyd and Opal in the Panguitch hospital, of course they went over. Quite a coincidence, the baby was born on Eldon Griffin's birthday and Eldon's girl was born on Opal's birthday. The Alveys have Geneal and Blair Frazier here from Salt Lake City. The S. J. Alveys have a new great-granddaughter born to Frankie and Ronald Freeman in Nevada. The Smith Alveys had Linda Lou home from Brigham City for two days. Betty Schow and Vivian Gruex came from Salt Lake City to visit their father. Ray Shurtz and other relativea, Marlyn Shurtz went back with them. Jane Woolsey had daughter Clema Barney and two youngest kids here from Page. Tim was too involved to leave home. Alvey and Laretta Sherman and daughter Janet and three youngsters came from Imperial Beach, Calif., they slept at Bernard Schows and Alvey helped Jane fix up around the place. The Shermans had been to Lehi visiting Laretta's father, Dick Thompson who was recovering from his third operation, he was coming out of it fine for a man who will be 87 in January While they were here some neighbors, Tom and Faye Berry and daughter came out to have Alvey show them this country, they were fascinated yet frightened at our mountain roads. Bernlce Wilson had a letter from Norte Porter saying they were coming to Utah - ahe. Wa-rletta and husband - when a car ran into them shaking them up considerably Wariet-ta was hurt the worst, had whiplash which made a neck brace necessary They would put off their visit until Fall arf hope for better luck next tune. Ivan and Nelda Willis had a visit from Wayne and Elsie Henderson of Burbank, Calif., the latest fad there is collecting old milk cans. and Dave Mclnelly left son Shane here for an extended visit and there has ne ver been a dull moment; he got lodged up in the Dog's Foot and had to De reued, then Rol took him fishing and he got lost, he is having a ball IYulonde The Blake Hobinsons have three of their Allen grandkidB here. Blake, Brent and Tracie, Rhoda and Joe are in Provo at ths BYU. Orabell Welgle came from Salt Uke City to care for her mother Mary Lyman while Millie Mclneli, went on a fara- ily reunion to Saratoga Park near Lehi. James was too busy to go so he tried working Sunday and broke down. These were descendants of Mary and Arthur Mclnelly and out of a possible 1 14 there were 76 present. Millie and Laretta Spencer have a truck line, Laretta is the driver and Millie the straw boss. Mary Hisky from Wayne County was touring the area with friends and visited Mary Lyman, she wanted to stay and care for her. Relatives here got word of the death of Hugh Bailey in a Florida hospital, they are bringing him home for burial. Nell Barker has daughter Betty Jean Ross and three children here from Colorado. Thel-ma Cottam is in Cedar City at tending a three week work shop, Doyle and son Brent are holding down the home front, Karen is working at Cedar Breaks. Myron Cottam is enjoying his mission in Germany, he has been District Leader, counselor in the Presidency and Zone Leader. In Sacrament meeting Sunday the South ward speakers were Kathleen and Warren Woolsey, Susan Shurtz played a piano solo; the North ward speakers were Glen Shaw and Dennis Wintch, Valeree Wlntch and Valeree Shurtz sang accompanied by Geneal Shurtz. Louise Liston was released as YLMIA president with Lillian Coleman and Margene Stowe as counselors. Lois Barney was put in as president but they never mentioned any help for her. The High council members attended a meeting in Tropic. The Valley Finance officials were all present and accounted for at a meeting Sunday with dinner at Whitey's Cafe. Horse racing fans went to Cedar City for the races. Billle and Minnie Davis did and visited Bonnie and Holbert Smith, they brought Machelle Foster of Tropic home with them. Geneal Chatterton and two daughters are visiting her parents, the Andrew Spencers before leaving for New Jersey where her husband has a position in a research center on plants, etc. The Stan Haycocks had Doug and Barbara here from Green River. Dot Coombs and myself took Mother Alvey to Pan gultch to join Bob Middleton and his wife for a trip to Salt Lake City for a Democrat convention, we looked for them on TV but they did not show up. At the Panguitch cafe we were waited on by Phyllis Mclnelly, it was good to aee her. her daughter Cindy works there also. Shlrlee Spencer and djghter Doris and Clolla Woolsey were there. Dick Droubay enjoyed last week, be had a birthday and got his driver's license. Jolynn and Eldon Griffin had birthday anniversaries the same day. The Coleman people, all except Frank and family went to Colorado for a reunion. Jim and Erma Gates. Pratt and Areola Gates had business in Richfield I,ester and Blanche Spencer of Richfield visited here, Leora Thibdau and Ruth Thompson were here from Sa lem. Some folks love to pass the buck, others only spend it, both are pleasant past tines what hurts us is to lend it. |
