Kay Lynn Shurtz is in the Pan-guitch hospital recovering from surgery' that, removed a ruptured appendix, Hal and Ge-neal have taken turns staying with him, he was mighty sick but improving the last report, i 'Areola Gates had minor sur-t gery'at' the PShguitch hospital, performed by Dr. Kazan. Missed before about Troy Lyman,, son of Dale and Lillian; being in a leg brace and on crutches; he has that bone disease called perthese where the hip ball becomes Infected, it usually takes two or three years to clear it up. Vic Cottam took Euzellback to Cedar City to her doctor, she feels better about her eyes as her sight has improved. Martha Davis is recovering nicely from her eye operation but they will not release her to come home until her eye is , completely healed and she is H fit with glasses. Her daughter Nonie Ott went into the hos- pital for surgery. Reed and Wilmirth Wooley returned from New Mexico in ' . time to see the washouts and other results of those' terrific ' rains. Blllie Davis and Blake " ' a. . Robinson, coming from north, bucked snow and' had slick roads bringing their two race , horses home for the winter. . Blake is having his sheds remodeled. Margene Stowe and young-t 'est son, and Orilla Cowles ' went to Panguitch for dental appointments, Dennis Cowles " took their pickup over for repairs and came home with them. Orville Cowles and Rog-. er Attwood were called to Price to help Everett Williams who was practically snowed In. Beverly, daughter of Champ and Afton Church, moved to Texas and when she attended church met Lois Haws Barney, it was a big thrill for both of them. Nancy Druebay and Judy Kelly had business in Panguitch, John Dreubay went on to Richfield. A fashion show was held here last week under the direction of the home demonstration agent, Mre. Sedwicks, the High School girls did the modeling. Gary Lane Llston and Janeen Alvey held, separate - birthday parties last week, of ' course assisted by their mothers, Geraldine and Deon, and classmates. Cecil and Carrie Griffin have moved into their own house in the southeast corner of town. Reeves and Laura Baker have moved into their new home. Usher Spencer went to Panguitch hospital with an injured fcot, they were all lied up so he came back to Dr. Kazan. Usher had business in Richfield also. Tlielnia Cottam and Areola Gates got th.j travel urge and went to Cedar City and Rich-field, their parents, Andrew I and Isabell Spencer, accompanied them, they had a flat time and no jack, so they had problems. Lillian Coleman entertained the Friendship Club last week, Vickie Coleman and kids of Salt Gulch visited her mother, Beth Smith. The Hy- rum Colemans had Douglas Mclnelly here from Monroe.. Also from Monroe were Gene and Renon Reed, and family at the'Ott' Roundys. Mae "Vonn Taylor, Deon Alvey and Fon Mecham went to Cedar City, others we heard of having business there were Alice Ann Lyman and kids. Jim and Allene Haws have her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Osborn here from Wayne county, he is helping Jim do his fall butchering. Betty AV vey had a dental date in Salt Lake so took the two little boys, left Irene and Johnny in charge of their Alvey Grandparents and took her father, Wallace Roundy for company and help. Flora Leibenguth quilted several days last week with the help of neighbors and friends. Raymond Griffin had to go to Filmore to a meeting iso took his two brothers, Sharon and Richard along for company. Earl and Nethella Wool-sey have her brother, Clyde King here. The Berlin Osborns had Mack and Jo Barney and family here, the Vic Cottams had Kent and Laura, all from Cedar City. Clare Seeley of Panguitch visited clients here. Mrs. Henrie was here on school business. The holiday parties have started; both ward Primary officers and teachers entertained their husbands at turkey dinners, separately; the DUP entertained their husbands with the traditional turkey dinner, the outlined lesson and program. I shortened the lesson so some of the men would not be too bored. We sang Christmas carols directed by Ruth Griffin and accompanied by Betty R. Alvey, Lor-in Cottam played on his harmonica those old tunes they did the one two three hop dances to, Wallace Roundy corded for him, then Wallace sang two numbers. Meletta told Lorin he was out of wind so he quit, Betty played Christmas songs on the piano, Twila Mclnelly requested that I tell the skunk story, Elda Haws and Alice Bailey told stories. Yes, Alice and Charley were there, bless their hearts, Escalante's oldest couple. John Zenz was quite embarrased, he and Lola have a code if he wants to whisper something to her he taps her knee. He had a' message to convey and started the tapping treatment not knowing that Lola had moved. He tapped several times, no response so he pinched and got objections from Sariah Alvey. A highlight of list week was (continued Inside) ESCALANTE the basketball tournament held in Wayne county, four high schools participating: Wayne, Escalante, Piute, and Altamont. Escalante took first place, Altamont 2nd, Wayne 3rd and Piute 4th. The boys on our main team are Myron Cottam, Kent and Boyd Griffin, Lynn Button, Kent Osborn, Dean Glcdhlll and Arthur Lyman. Many parents and ball fans went over for the games. In Sacrament meeting Sunday the South ward had as speakers Andrew and Usher Spencer and Doyle Cottam: the Sunday School class of Erma Gates sang accompanied by Louise Llston. The North ward listened to Marion Clark, J. Berlin Osborn and Malen Mecham, Marlene Haws sang accompanied by Dawn Griffin. You see evergreen trees being hauled, just standing or laying in wait, and some even all decked out in holiday finery. How many days untl Christmas? we have no time to ask, we're being pushed unmercifully by every kind of task. |
