Show Republicans Score Sweep Spencer Wins On Write-In x Following the state and national trends even going a bit more Republican than most Garfield County gave almost all the Republicans victories at the polls, only .exceptions being "favorite son" Vernon L. Holman, Democratic incumbent nominee for re-election to the Utah State Senate, and Mary S. Lee, who was unopposed in her bid for re-election to the post of Garfield County Treasurer. J. Clyde Spencer won on a write over Democrat George Talbot for the job of County Assessor, the job which Mr, Spencer now holds. Spencer's, victory tally being 785 votes to Talbot's 259. Although Garfield County gave Vernon L. Holman 312 votes more than his Republican rival, Kendrick Harward of Sevier County, the latter won easily. In school board elections, Clem Church, unopposed in School Representative. Precinct No. 1, received 287 votes with a scattering of one vote write-in. In school representative district no. 2, Hatch voted 19 for Frank Cline and 55 for J. A. Riggs; Panguitch no. 1 voted 27 Cline, 119 Riggs; Panguitch no. 2, 27 Cline, 90 Riggs. Total: Riggs, 264, Cline 73. In School Representative District, Tropic voted 90 for Mai-em Mecham, 72 for Dean C. Wintch; Henrieville, 29 Mecham, 31 Wintch; Cannonvllle: 27 Mecham, 25 Wintch. Winner' Mecham 146 to 132. Edna S. Cannon, running unopposed for State School Board from Regional District No. 6, received 979 votes. Majority of county locals -casUthelr ballots, for -Wilkin-. son in the Judicial selection ballot, giving him 703 to Incumbent Justice R. L. Tuck-ett's 530. County voters turned down all eight of the proposed constitutional amendments with tallies of from 5 to 3 against to as much as 7 to 1 against. |
