Show i Escalante Chit Chat i That beautiful Indian Summer is over, it tries to storm but so far just enough to pick up and track in. Had another accident which hospitalized David Haycock with a broken back and leg. He was driving a skidder to bring in logs for Paul Steed's mill. Wayne Spencer was driving another and he missed David, could see he had not brought in logs for awhile, so he shut off the motor and listened for the other motor but could hear nothing. He went looking for David and found where the skidder had rolled off a 75 foot embankment and David was laying unconscious but thrown clear of the machinery. Wayne went for help and the boy's father Spence Haycock and Paul Steed took him to Pangultch. We are happy, to report that the doctor told Cristlne Wool-sey she could go to school, and LaVern Griffin has been going for short car rides, he went to Murray Sunday for dinner at the home of his brother Clem, and called his parents here. He could come home but one kidney is not normal yet so will keep him awhile. Becky Griffin is In the Panguitch hospital. Lawana Pratt came home to care for her father Phllo, his sister Leila Peterson came to virit him. Leda Pratt had a visit from Jane and Darrel Sed-wick of Tropic. James and Millie Mclnelly and son Vera Arthur went to Richfield and brought their mother Mary R. home, she is not feeling so well at present. Mary Lyman is in Salt Lake with family members. November the first, Gall Bailey and Donna Hatch exchanged marriage vows In the Salt Lake temple, they will be at home in Escalante after Nov. 15th. She has two sons by a former marriage. Harve Bally and his bride are here visiting relatives. Industrial " - Arts teacher, Rex Lawrence, and wife Kim have a fine baby boy making them two of each. Jane V.'oolsey got word that she has a new granddaughter born to Edward and Vada Martin In Florida. They have three boys so this little gal Is quite an event, they are naming her Elizabeth Jane for both grandmothers. i Arden Taylor and Paul Steed 1 ' had business In Salt Lake City. ! Hilda Roundy, Sarlah Alvey and Ardls Chrlstensen went to t Pangultch to meet tho Govern- or. The Morias Halls had son Joe home for a visit. Laretta Spencer went to Pangultch to have impressions taken for her new teeth. Don and Lillian Coleman went to the St. George Temple with his twin brother, Dan, and wife Vicki of Salt Gulch. Lorell and Nelda Mun-son and Vernon and Rula Spencer spent Saturday at the St. George Temple. Neta Shirts reported in that she and Morris had finished the summer job at Bryce Canyon and hurried home to get ahead of the storm. Layton and Larue Griffin are home from Zions Canyon, they had their house remodeled during the summer's absence. Jim Haws went to the State of Washington to a telphone schooling, he visited with Ethan and Wanda Hansen In Kennewick. Mont and Ethyl Griffin went to' Salt Lake City. The Spence Haycocks had a visit from daughter Mary Lynn Sidwell and kids from Wyoming. Reed and Faun Thompson of Cedar City visited at the Blllie Davis home and hunted pheasants. McKinley Morrell and son Max were here buying calves. Harvey and Evadean Llston went North; their daughter Utahna Poulsen was to take her final exams to become a Beauty operator. Harvey went to give moral support and Evadean to be the model for her to work on. Those we heard of having business In Panguitch were Marvin Mounteer, Kevin Spencer, LeAnn Julander, Vergene and Caroline Porter, and myself. One meets such a wide variety of interesting folks In the waiting room of the hospital: the Dave Quilters of Henrie-ville, Julia Turek and Stella RIggs of Hatch, Willard Mack-leprang of Glendale, Horace Roundy of Alton, and the always friendly hospital staff. Went on to Little's Ranch and found them busy as usual. Missed last week Bud and Joy Gates here from Salt Lake; the Clyde Spencers had son J. C. and part of his family here from Mapleton. Van Smith came again, this time had a German lady friend. June Llston, son Brad and daughter Lois and coach Keith Allred went to Cedar City for a program that Lana was taking part In. Lana's room mate was chosen Homecoming Queen. Hal and Geneal Shurtz aad family, Bill and Dawn Griffin and family (continued on back page) ESCALANTE (continued) went to Cedar City for the Homecoming celebration, Vickl Shurtz cannot come home very often as she was put in Relief Society President of the college ward. Gurena Robinson went to Provo for a week's visit. Wallace Roundy and grandson Johnnie Alvey, William Boyle and daughter Sherri went to Salt Lake City. Missed the Deuel brothers, Verge and Jay and their mother Hulda Spencer being here for the hunt. Janie Woolsey and small son came from Price for a visit. Whitey Porter had his sis-here from Salt Lake. Wayne ter, Vera Young and a friend Barney felt strong enough to drive to Provo, lone accompanied him. Have you noticed the Sundays you clean up and look fairly respectable you seldom have company? But take that to catch up on some dirty jobs and someone comes. George and LaVern Hamilton from Weldon, Calif, called on us, they look .prosperous and hap py, had a new car and had been to Idaho to visit daughter Ardena, her husband and five youngsters, they live on a farm. The Hamiltons have the rest of their family with them; Roger and Wes .are still bachelors, Evadean and Glen Long and tiny daughter live on the same farm and of course Jack and Laretta are still at home. They visited relatives in Salt Lake City including her mother, Mildrd Schow, they took her back to California with them. It was good to visit old neighbors again but they did not stay- long enough. The Bob Middletons and Dan Perkins were here on political business. The small daughter of the Don Kellys passed away and was taken to Wyoming for services and burial. We extend to them deepest sympathy. Lincoln Lyman took the deer pool, his buck measured 39 inches. Blake Robinson ruined the meat of his to save the head in perfect condition and Lincoln came in the last day with the winner. Opportunity has to knock they say whether we're rich or poor, temptation Just stands and whistles outside the door. |
