Show Two County People Lose Lives In Four-Death Highway Crash A head-on collision killed four people near Fayette last Sunday, July 17th. Killed were Earl Sawyer, 56; his daughter-in-law, Max-ine Sawyer, 30, both of Hatch; I Arly Edwards, 79, and his wife Iva Petrson Edwards, 63, from Marysvale. Highway Patrol Trooper Bcr-lis Quarnbcrg, who investigated, said the Edwards car apparently swerved into the right lane of traffic, smashing head-on Into the Sawyer vehicle. Mrs. Sawyer's husband Stanton was listed in critical condition at Gunnison Valley Hospital with multiple injuries and extreme loss of blood. Their son, Tyc Sawyer, 5, escaped serious injury but was hospitalized for observation. The accident occurred between 9:15 and 9:30 a.m. on a curve along Utah Highway 28 about eight miles north of Gunnison. The car driven by Mr. Edwards was southbound, the northbound vehicle was driven by Earl Sawyer. Funeral services were scheduled July 21st for Earl and Maxine in the Hatch ward chapel. Mr. Sawyer will be burled In the Hatch cemetery, while Mrs. Sawyer's body will be taken to Boulder for burial. Earl Sawyer Earl Sawyer was born Dec. 21, 1909 at Hatch to Thomas Ball and Margaret Hatch Sawyer. He married Leora Wilson Aug. 5, 1935, Wilson Canyon. Mr. Sawyer was a sawmill operator and contractor. For many years he played in the Hatch Orchestra. Survivors: widow; sons, daughter: Stanton Earl, LarryJ Bobby, all of Hatch; Mrs. Oscar (Judy) Taylor, Lyman; 5 grandchildren; brothers, sister, Thomas, Arthur, Arnold, all of Hatch; Elgin, Salt LakdCity; Leon, St. George; Mrs. Rose Ison, Hurricane. Maxine Sawyer Maxine Sawyer was born Jan. 13, 1936 in Torrey to Max Dwayne and Veda Mae Behu-nln. On Dec. 23, 1954 she married Stanton Earl Sawyer in the St. George Temple. Survivors: husband; sons, daughter: Jerry E., Tye E., Coral, all of Hatch; parents, Boulder; brother, Dwayne Farlan; sister, Twila, both of Boulder. |
