Show i Escalantehithat FAY ALVEY After several feeble attempts at raining we got a nice shower Sunday during church. The water situation on the cattle , range became really serious, and the bugs were taking over everywhere. Weldon Porter went back to Arizona with Tony Reynolds to seek employment. Kate Porter had all of her family home for the weekend; Janet, Bonnie and Lonnie came from Salt Lake and joined the ones here, Gary went back with the Salt Lake gals to visit other relatives there before leaving for Viet Nam. He showed us some pictures taken when he was there before, showing their dwelling houses, rice fields, implements of warfare, some of the wounded soldiers from both sides, it was all very interesting. Alvin Griffin is here again with his family before leaving for Viet Nam. Alvin's wife Pat will work at the Veteran's Hospital in Salt Lake while he is away. North ward Primary teachers, Marlene Haws, Geraldlne Liston and Carrie Griffin took their girls to Calf Creek for an early morning cook out, then spent most of the day hiking and. swimming. Rol and Mina Porter, Kenneth and Marie Griffin spent one day in Richfield, Kenneth went back to Provo and left Marie to visit Velma and Bunch Boulter who came from California. James, Sariah and Deon Al-vey went to Richfield for the funeral services of Mr. and Mrs. Parker, they picked Emily Pollock up in Tropic. John Dreubay had business in Richfield. Nancy Dreubay and children went to Provo for several days. Brent and Mario Durfey visited in BlcUnell with his pa-ents, the Rotis Duifeys. The Stan Haycocks and Clarice Griffin were in Wayne County for a wedding reception of a relative. The Heaps people, Joe, Minerva, Verge and Eva of American Fork visited friends and relatives here enroute to Boulder. Garneal Smith and kids, Iris Porter and her sister Twi-la and son were in Pangultch for medical checkups. Golda Cottam celebrated her birthday with the help of Minnie Pa-vis, Sariah Alvey, Euzell Col-tarn, Verda, Clarice and Marie Griffin, Dicey Coombs and Mina Porter. Gordon and Aline-da Haycock and children, and Verda Davis had dental and other business in Richfield. Glen and Coleen Imlay took daughter Frankie Lou to Salt Lake to a dental' specialist. Lola Zenz took a solitary trip to Panguitch to the dentist. Mar-jie Spencer made two trips to Richfield with High School girls on their summer project. The family reunion of the Parley Coleman family was held in Colorado Springs, Colo.; Hy-rum, Frank and Don and families and the Arnold Buttons went from here. The kids were all there except Barbara Gardner and family of Enterprise. The Dale Marshes had Warren and Kathleen Woolsey here from Cedar City. Sharon Dale and Shirley Marsh came back from Cedar with a new pickup. Gary and Dean Shurtz are here from Phoenix, Ariz, visiting relatives. Kay Lynn Shurtz celebrated his birthday with the help of mother Gen-eal and many friends. Vicki Shurtz had hers last week. Mr, and Mrs. Vernal Porter from Springfield, Missouri and Mr. and Mrs. Clell Porter from Salem were here visiting relatives and looking for fruit, they found a few apricots. Joe and Elizabeth Foy of Panguitch were visitors at the Melvin Alvey home. Nadene Brockman and five youngsters of Tropic visited at the Grant Spence home and gleaned a few apricots, that oldest boy should go out in forestry he did quite a job of pruning the tree. Missed last week the Deuel reunion held at Pine Lake, there were 60 present, Barton Deuel and family, and Beumont and Verda Griffin went from here. Had an accident at the Saw mill, Don Mangum of Cannon-ville stooped down hitting an angle iron, cutting a gash it took nine stitches to close, and breaking his nose. The nurses here did not dare attempt to patch him up so he was rushed to Panguitch. Shirley Spencer took son Marion to Panguitch for xrays of his hand, and had her top teeth extracted, Betty Alvey accompanied her to drive home. The Morias Halls have son Joe home on furlough, last week they had daughter Morilla Jolly and daughters here from Cedar Ci' ty. The Valley Finance meet ing was held here on the week' end with a picnic at Calf Creek continued inside ESCALANTE (continued) The McKinley Morrels came from Junction, the Don Swapps from Kanab, Mrs. Annie Oakley and a Mrs. Thorn, and the Reed Thompsons from Cedar City. Caroline Cowles visited in Pangultch at the home of her grandparents, the Joe Adairs. Louise Liston has her sister Maurice Homer and two children here from Pearl River, New York, her husband and other offspring will be here later. Lowell and Margaret Me-cham of Tropic visited relatives here. The Harvey Listons had daughter Utahna, the LaVern Grif- fins, Jolynn, and the Vernon Griffins, Caroline, all here from Beauty school in Salt Lake. The Grant Spencers had Frank and Deloa Savage and family here from Orem. Stan and June Liston went to Cedar City to see daughter Lana. Smith Alvey, Dale and Lincoln Lyman were home for the weekend. Missed last week the trip taken by Mont and Ethyl Griffin, and Erma Gates from here and Cora Shakespear from Tropic. They went to Salt Lake for the testimonial of Marian Griffin, they visited relatives and friends, shopped and had an all together enjoyable time. Ethyl was due in Richfield I for a dental appointment but it was hard to get the crowd gathered and on their way. It came time for Mont's siesta so Erma took the wheel. They noticed the heat but blamed the weather, they were cruising a- long about 50 when something blowed up scaring them out of ten years growth. They discovered a water hose had exploded showering the car with pres-tone boiling hot. It did wake Mont and all Cora could think of was saving that little basket of strawberries she was taking home to Harmon. A Road cop helped them cool things- off, Jess Madson took Ethyl to town in time for her dental date, Erma went along to hold her hand. They towed the car into Richfield where the fan belt and water hose were replaced and they came on home. In Sacrament meeting Sunday the South ward listened to Marvin Mounteer and Ray Griffin talk, and Grena Mclnelly and Linda Alvey sang accompanied by Nicki Griffin. The North ward had as speakers Joe Hall and Lamoine Pollock. They ought to pass a law against apricots ripening before we get the 24th of July overwith. Kay Gates and Boyd Alvey arrived safely In Germany but they were put in different batteries which made them sad. The long dry spell which we endured made us feel secure, then came the storm, it did uj harm, our roofs were rather poor. |
