Show Dr. Cooper's (Art Cooper That Is) Book On South American Tribe Available Dr. J. Arthur Cooper's study of the Otavalo Indians of Ecuador has recently been published under the title, "The School In Otavalo Indian Society." In the preface to the book, the author declares that from the beginning of his doctoral work his goal was to write a thesis that would be of interest to the general reader as well as to his professional colleagues. With the hope of having achieved this goal he now makes the study available to the public. The Otavalos are a fascinating group of Indians believed by many observers to be the most culturally advanced of all South American tribes. After describing the Otavalos and their culture, special consideration is given to the role of formal education in their development. Field research for the study was done durig the summer of 1963.
