Show THE WORD FROM BOULDER BY NETHELLA WOOLSEY Now that the Fourth of July is over there Is nothing to do but get the haying done in time for the Twenty-fourth. Everyone agrees it was the biggest and best rodeo we have ever had, and THAT means It was GOOD, mister. An encouraging thing was the presence of so many young riders. Among the most prominent of these were Jack Taylor, Heber Baker. Dick Pace, Dwight Taylor, and Bruce Brlnkerhoff of Teasdale; Douglas Haycock and Danny Reld of Escalante, Gabby Smith, Bill Francisco, and Ken Gouldlng of Henrieville; Kirk Richins of Mur. ray, Dick Mlddleton of Oklahoma, and a boy from Texas. Heber Baker suffered soma broken ribs, Gabby Smith way kicked behind his ear, and Nell Jeppsen was hurt slight, ly. Kirk Lyman and Darrel Alvey (conspicuous among BOULDER J the riders with his broken J arm) won the milking con- test. Don Taylor of Bicknell won the calf roping. Max Be- J hunln was in his usual good J form at the microphone. 3 Many of us attended the !j very fine wedding reception J at Escalante Saturday eve- J ning honoring Mr. and Mrs. j Karl Spencer. Several mem- bers of the bride's family J were here over the weekend. Jj These included Mr. and Mrs. ; Larry Coombs of Logan, Mr. and Mrs. Kent Sheffield and Misses Thressa and Mary J Coombs of Salt Lake. ; Mrs. Geraldine Shurtz and small son Raymond left Mon- I day for Los Angeles. Her hus- ; band and son Gary Dean plan ; to Join her sometimes later. Speakers at Sunday serv- I Ices were Councilmen Alburn i Griffin and Berlin Osborn. They were accompanied by Mrs. Griffin and Mrs. Osborn. Coming round the mountain road from Tcasdale Monday we were pleased (o noto the imporvemcnts In the way of earth fills in holes and the covering of rocky stretches. Now If the surface could be protected against heavy rains like the one we encountered south of G rover, all would be well. We are also glad to notice somo needed patching on the Escalante road, but arc beginning to worry about that promised survey that was to begin this summer. |
