Show P 1 i PL'i PL i CY FAY ALVEY Escalante Ihit that School started as scheduled on the 27th in spite of the protests that it was much too early, ran into difficulties the first thing, the students couldn't pronounce the Principal's name. Got word that Lasca Bailey is getting along just fine since her operation, all of her girls are with her, Joy lives in Salt Lake City; Geraldlne came from Calif., and Roma from Hawaii Martha Twitchell has had her leg near the ankle operated on, and is to undergo major surgery in the near future. Betty Alvey, Lloyd's wife, was rushed to Panguitch real sick, they thought it was either her appendix or gall but the Dr. said it wasn't, she is back home and gets around but don't look too pert. Ron Schow was cutting timber when his saw got away and sawed his limb between the knee and hip, it severed an artery; Lloyd Alvey who was working with him rushed him to Panguitch for treatment. Joanna Barker is better enough to be out to church. Aunt Susan Heaps is still in Wayne County and is much improved; her daughter Clarice Griffin, also LaVern Griffin and his wife and family went to the Fair over there and reported that Aunt Susan attended the entertainment and was almost her old self. Mrs. Myra King of Provo has been here visiting her two sisters: Alice Haycock and Annie Alvey, also her niece Ruth Griifin, she was accompanied ' by her two daughters LaWa- Kt na and Lasca and Ethyl's granddaughter. Annie Alvey got word that her daughter Edna and family (Mr. and . ' " Mrs. Vernon Peterson) have moved from Idaho to Logan, she is thrilled to have them closer. Mr. and Mrs. Arden Woolsey, their daughter Joy and her girl friend from Taft, California spent the weekend here, don't know what their business was besides bringing Joy to see Tony Reynolds. Ray Adair took his son Dar-rell to Cedar City to catch his transportation back to San Diego where he is stationed in the Service, he is scheduled to attend Sonar school. Ardena, daughter of the George Ham-iltons, is home from Calif., she plans to go to Salt Lake City and enroll in the Excelcis Beauty school. Aubrey Barker and family of Bountiful were here visiting at the Jess Barker home. Curtis Larsen and family of Cedar City visited at the Lovell Twitchell home. Mrs. Eliza Mclnelly has had two more of her children home, the Ivan Davenports and family, that's her daughter Lucile, and her .son Lester and his wife and little grandson. Mr. and Mrs. Ervin Riddle of Cedar City were visitors at the Billie Barker home, they are the couple who played cupid and got Billie and Mamie together in the first place. Mr. and Mrs. Gam Haycock and family of Tropic were weekend visitors at the Jim Haycock home. Mr. and Mrs. Gaden Gates have a new 68 Olds. I just got so I could 'ecognize their other on Gerald Barney, Tony Reynolds, Lynn Griffin and Bobby Pratt all have cars that are new to them. Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Alvey and part of their family from Salt Lake City were visitors here, they called in Richfield and brought their father Tom Alvey who was there in the rest home, to visit his two daughters. Lavina Pollock and Idella Imlay. The Imlays have their son Glen and his family from Colorado here visiting, she it. a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. D. H. Cowles. Mr. and Mrs. Lorin Cottam have another granddaughter born to Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Creek of Mossy Rock, Washington, that makes four for them, two of each kind; the Cottams have had her niece and family, Mr. and Mrs. Wal-(continued inside) ESCALANTE ter Carlton of Provo here visiting, in fact' they have had 53 visitors since school let out. Mr. and Mrs. DeLoy Peterson of Salt Lake City brought her mother, Sopha Schurtz home after she had attended tho Schurtz family reunion at Mapleton; Sopha reports that they had a fine time . and a big turnout and they kept her in office. Jim Reynolds of Kanab is here visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Cliff Reynolds, he is the proud papa of a new son. Mr. and Mrs. Lenza Wilson went to Panguitch to meet the bus to get three Indian children; their little girl Nancy, the boy David who lives with the Lorell Munsons, and a girl to stay with Mrs. Gertrude Moosman of Boulder. The Wilsons have been to Manti to attend a family reunion of her people, the Millers; it was held at the Manti City Park and there were 65 present, they played games, went in swimming and had an enjoyable time. Mr. and Mrs. Thurman Spencer made a trip to Richfield for Dental work; they did their good turn by bringing Bud Lay home as he was finished with his stretch. The Chester Lays have moved from the Dick Schow home in the southeast part of town to the apartment behind Del-la's store. Delia Christiansen came from Cedar for the week end, she has a job clerking in a store over there. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Siple and four children of Idaho Falls were visitors at the Wallace Roun-dy home, Mrs. Siple is their daughter Wavie. Mr. and Mrs Smith Alvey made a business trip to Salt Lake City. Mr. and Mrs. Randall Lyman took their son Blain to Provo to an eye doctor. The town was shocked' at the sudden death of Mr. 'Oscar Adams; folks knew he was not healthy but did not realize he was so serious, he died at the Panguitch hospital. Their children came here to be with Mrs. Adams and a near tragedy happened; Mrs. Adams gave one of the grandsons a gun belonging to his grandfather, he took it outside and somehow it discharged putting a bullet through his foot, they took him right to Panguitch and found that no bones were broken. Services for Mr. Adams will be held in Provo at the Odd Fellows Lodge; Mrs. Adams plans to live in Provo. The S. J. Alveys have gone on vacation to visit their daughter and family, the E. L. Hansens of Washington; also Mrs. Alvey's brother Bill Haws; they went as far as Provo with Blake Robinson, who was going anyway, then their granddaughter and husband, the Ronald Freemansot Salt Lake City will take them on to their destination. The man called Peter and his friend were joined by another character from Wisconsin, and he went with them in their mysterious trips down the desert, then they all went back to the land from whence they came. Mr. and Mrs. William Mitchell have returned from a two weeks vacation; they went with her daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. George Rushton, they started in at Brigham City, then went into Idaho, Oregon, and Washington, up to the border of Canada then turned back and went down the coast to Los Angeles, San Diego, then came back through Arizona stopping at Phoenix, Yuma, Cameron and Flagstaff; either one or the other or both of them had friends or relatives every place they went. They visited Worth Porter, his wife and five children in Calif., he is the son of the late Jode Porter and was born and raised here, they say he is a Bishop now. John Norman was working in the timber and got a stick in his eye; he waited three days, during which time his bosom friends, Arnold Alvey and Spence Haycock helped him consume medicine to make it better, but in spite of their combined efforts he had to give up and go to a doctor. Baptismal Services were held Saturday night in the South Ward church with both wards in attendance, the following children were baptized: North Ward, Don Wallace, son of Calvin Shurtz; Terry Lynn, daughter of Lynn Gates; Gloria Jean, daughter of Kate Porter; Linda Rae, daughter of Bob Woolsey; Sharlot Claire, daughter of Reed Thompson; Lois Mae, daughter of Stanley Liston; Ver-jeania, daughter of Verjeane Porter; Joe Elland, daughter of Norman Christensen, and Richard Lewis, son of Lewis Griffin. South Ward: Joan, daughter of Wayne Bailey; Leland King, son of Barton Deuel; Stephen Lloyd, son of Lloyd Alvey; Shanna Lee and Sharon Dee, twin son and daughter of Vernon Griffin; and James Ariel, son of Ariel Alvey. Carlyle Shurtz, son of Beryl Shurtz, did the baptizing of the South ward, and Norman Christensen and Lewis Griffin of the North ward; all the children were confirmed Sunday at church. Speakers in church were, South: Brother and Sister Da- vidson, Seminary teacher and his wife, and his sister Frances who is living with them and attending school; they live at the Ethyl Liston home. In the North ward, the new Principal, Walter Svedin and the Home Ec. teacher Marie Nelson did the speaking and a group of Primary children sang a song. Billie Davis is a proud citizen, he got his deer with a bow and arrow, he has its head on display in his store window. Mr. and Mrs. Rudger Schurtz of Provo" announce the marriage 'of their daughter Barbra to Daryl Colloge of Lehi, son of Mrs. Nina Col-loge, they will exchange vows Sept. 3, at Provo and a reception will follow. The groom is in the Service stationed in. Calif. Barbra will stay with her parents until he is released; these Schurtz people lived here until just recently. You hear girls talking of fellows, describing their eyes and hair, giving their color in detail, whether brunette or fair, but there is one big quality a maid's sunk if he lacks, their eyes can be brown or blue or gray as long as they have greenbacks. |
