Show 5TT-' Senator Bennett Reports Huge Improvement Program For Bryce Senator Wallace P. Bennett phoned the County t K News from Washington Wednesday morning to report t successful completion of his two-year drive for more funds for Bryce Canyon National Park. According to Senator Bennett, the long dreamed of and long sought Improvements which will bring the Park up to par with the best National Parks In the land will become reality In "fiscal 58" (the bookkeeping year which starts on July 1, . 1957). The Senator advises that requests for the following funds were contained in President Eisenhower's x budget message: For roads in Bryce Canyon National Park $32,500 , ' Employee Housing, 4 mul tiple units, $49,300; Employee residences $64,800; Visitors center and exhibits $340,900 (one of the most important and most necessary units in the entire deal) ; 'Guard rails $20,300; acquisition of water rights $27,000, The ' total comes to well over a half-million dollars. With the Park now having its " own administration-again thanks in great measure to Senator Bennett -there is no chance of any of the funds being "kidnapped", as happened in the past, and being applied elsewhere. Funds for Cedar Breaks were also requested: rerouting of the rim road $50,000; acquisition of water rights $4,400. Setting aside of $25,142,-000 for the Colorado River project was also requested in the President's message. $15,602,000 would go tho Glen Canyon dam to be added to tho $9,325,000 already earmarked for the project. This would include money for access roads, right diversion tunnel, diversion dam, continuation of excavation, and tho bridge over the river. |
