Show dito oah OUR OCR NOBLE PIONEERS seventy six years ago today july 24 1847 the sturdy band baudat at der the leadership ot at president brigham young entered the salt lake valley then a barren waste to find a home where they could worship god according to the dictates ot of their conscience and where they could tind find a place ot of permanent settlement it was not the greed for or gold nor the lure of wealth that brought the moneera pioneers west but the hope ot of finding a place where they could live in peace and rear their families according to their faith they had no thought of shirking responsibility or of a life of ease but rather a hope of 0 opportunity for honest toll and a chance of 0 progress through faithful endeavor the noble pioneers were men and women of faith in fact they lived by faith first in their eternal god and second faith in themselves they had passed through many trials and hardships on the long loag journey across the plains ana and were prepared to meet an any y obstacle disappointment or hardship that might come upon them knowing for a surety that hat t in the end god would reward their honest efforts and through their abiding I 1 faith in him answer a their prayers praye is there here are tew few of the original band of at pioneers left with us but there are quite a number who come later and who passed through the same trying experiences of the original company of 1847 to these men and women we I 1 owe every respect and to all the pioneers a debt of gratitude we should ever bless their memory and seek to a follow their good council it Is in this spirit that we now conduct our celebrations of the of july the main object Is to give honor to the founders of the state anil and to keep fresh in our memory their many virtues their integrity and their love ot of all that Is pure and goo good d features of our celebration in fit brigham city this year are the historical pageant depicting the onward march of progress from the early history of the state and the banquet in honor of the pioneers entering this state up till 1869 these features are under the direction pi of thi the daughters of the pioneers and right it la Is that they should be honored it will N iii give joy to the heart of at every man woman and child in the community to see proper reverence and attention given these venerable able men and women who blazed the trail and assisted in the building of an empire in the vales of deseret let us hope that our efforts in honoring the pioneers will be repaid by instilling in us the same spirit that guided them in all their noble accomplishments lish ments and give us a little at least of the unselfish spirit with which vieh they were so abundantly v blessed |
