Show H CORTRAST OF FARM H AND MINE TAXES Dear Farmer or Business Man : After deducting your expenses, how much money have you mndo this year? Plow would ' you like to have the privilege of paying taxes only on this a-mount a-mount instead of upon tho full value of your property? Aro you awaro that, with tho excop- tion of a small assessment of $5.00 per aero on mining lands and about what tho mining raa-chlnory raa-chlnory is worth, 'tho mine own-era own-era arc assessed only upon their net ' proceeds? Is it fair for - them to be assessed only upon Hi their profits and you upon the full value of your property, profit or no profit? The proposed amendment, which you may vote for on Nov. 5th, simply makes it possible to assess mines at a Just value by using their net profits aa a basis of calculation. Up 'till 1915, all property, except ex-cept mines, has been assessed at about 40 per cent, of its full value at-a rate of about 50 mills. Since then tho new law reduced the rate to about 20 mills and consequently forced tho assessed assess-ed valuation of property, except tho mines, up to its full value. Tho mine owners, at tho last election, succeeded in killing an amendment which would have made n fair ndjutsmcnt in the assessment of mines, and thereby there-by avoided paying, as the records rec-ords of the last three years will show, tho enormous amount of $1,857,9G(J.00 in round numbers, which they otherwise would havo paid. It ought to be clear to any common tax payer that Uio mine owners havo a FINANCIAL REASON (?) for beginning n-nother n-nother fight against an amendment amend-ment which, If passed, 'would simply make them pay as much taxes proportionately as they did up to tho year 1915. Do not be mislead. You cannot can-not afford to say I do not understand under-stand tho amcndment.and therefore there-fore fail to voto for it It is your privilege and your opportunity to ask the mine owners of tills state to ,bear a fair and equitable equit-able portion of tho burdens of taxation. You can do this by voting "YES" on this amendment. amend-ment. This is not a partisan political politi-cal Issue; tho last two legislatures legis-latures have, gone on record as favoring the' fundimental principle prin-ciple involved in this proposed amendment Sincerely yours, C. II. SKIDMORE. |
