Patten was surrounded by the mom-hers mom-hers of the exchange and hissed, hooted and cheered. He fled to tho street, hundreds following him, and he was surrounded by a howling mob. Tho mob hurled epithets and a hundred hun-dred fists were shaken at Patten, who turned deathly pale as the threatening crowd pressed closely and Beemed on tho point of attacking him. At a critical crit-ical moment a strong force of pollco arrived, and forcing their way through tho rioters, surrounded Patten, and a moment later they had hustled him Into an office and out of tho back door Into a cab, In which lie was hurriedly driven to a railroad station.
